"happy birthday!" zane's little brother, alexander, rushed into her room at her aunt's house to find her and her boyfriend snuggling on the bed. zane slowly woke up and gave her brother a hug. zach sat up too, and smiled at the reunion of the siblings.
the eleven year old boy understood why zane didn't talk, as he had gone through the same things as she had. alexander left the room, allowing zane and zach to get ready for the day.
"happy birthday zay." zach pecked the girl's cheek as they sat on the bed. her cheeks turned a deep red color, and she positioned herself so they could kiss properly.
the kiss was as sweet and passionate as their first, and the two felt a jolt of electricity flow through their veins. eventually, zane pulled away and slid her legs out from under the covers. she walked to the bathroom and did her morning routine. zach followed, and did his.
"happy birthday!" zane's extended family cheered as the couple walked up the stairs with intertwined fingers. the girl's lips parted to show her beautiful teeth, and she smiled. her mom came over and hugged her, and zane gladly returned it.
"thank you for taking care of my girl." zane's mom whispered to zach while giving him a hug too. zach nodded after she pulled back, and gave a reassuring smile.
the family then gathered around the kitchen, in a circle, and sang 'happy birthday' to the now nineteen year old. doris began to cut the cake, and then zane's mom got a call.
"hi!" she nodded to what the person on the other end said. "she's right here, one second." zane's mom handed her the phone while whispering. "it's your dad."
at that, zane froze with the phone in her hand. she started shaking uncontrollably, and couldn't even hold the device to her ear. zach walked over to the girl, and looked at the caller id. now he knew what was wrong.
zach returned the phone to it's owner and guided zane down to her room. he needed to help her calm down. the poor girl was having a panic attack. zane's limbs began to become week and she almost collapsed, but her boyfriend caught her, and carried her down the stairs.
he set her on the bed and engulfed her in a hug, while she continued to shake. zane pushed zach away. he wasn't helping her, he was just making the girl feel more crushed and helpless.
again, zach tried to give her a hug, but zane pushed him away with one of her last ounces of energy. the boy stood there, he couldn't help her, and it killed him. and what was worse, she didn't want him to help.
zach panicked and grabbed his suitcase. he zipped it up and made sure all of his belongings were inside. the boy ran out of the house and to his car. he just left, not knowing what to do.
