"This girl do fast, Mum said Dad must not meet us here" I warn my sister
"Ehn, I'm not a machine naw, if you want me to do fast, come and help me"
"See your mouth, you think you have sense, me I'm not helping you wash those plates o, it's your turn today"
She hisses loudly
"Ah, Me?, You're hissing at me?, You've grown wings o" I grab her left ear twisting it painfully
"Ah" She winces in pain
"Dieko, leave your sister alone so she can finish washing the plates naw" My mum enters the kitchen
I free Dami from my grip snapping my fingers at her to tell her that I will deal with her later
"Infact just go upstairs, I will finish washing it"
"But mummy, it's Damilola's turn"
"Be going" My mum says, Damilola smiles triumphantly, I'm going to deal with that girl
We both climb the stairs and go to our various rooms, immediately I get to my room, I pick up my phone, I then drop it back hissing loudly when I remember I can't even go online due to my lack of credit, I've been asking daddy for money to buy credit for a while now but he keeps giving me excuses, I resort to playing Subway Surfers
Some minutes later, I hear the front door open, I stand up from my bed and open my door a little so I can see what's happening downstairs
My dad staggers in, the same way he has been for the past week, why would somebody resort to drinking gan?, Wasn't he tired ni?, I see my mum walk up to him and try to help him
"Fimisile Iya Dieko (Leave me alone Dieko's mother)" He drawls out
I shake my head shamefully, God forgive me o, but is this one a father?
"The children are asleep, baba Dieko, let me help you up, so you won't wake them up" My mum says in a low tone
He raises his hand and slaps her. Hard, I almost rush downstairs but I know my mum will get angry if I do that so I stay put watching
"Those are not my children" My father says "They are bastards"
A pang of pain shoots through me, he called us bastards, after sixteen years of marriage, how can he even say such to my mum?
"Baba Dieko" My mum sobs "Please don't let the children hear you, keep your voice down"
"I don't care if they hear me, it's none of my business, this is my house, you can't tell me to keep quiet" He then begins to climb the staircase without another word, I close my door quickly so he won't see me
The tears threaten to escape as I walk to my bed slowly
He called us bastards

"Where is this definition of diffraction?" I say to myself as I search the textbook desperately, I hated this Physics ehn, and the class was really noisy as it was break time, I could not even understand anything
"Babe" One of my best friends, Ife walks up to me clapping her hands loudly
"What is it?"
"Have you heard the gist?" She asks
I just knew it, this girl and gist, she always found a way to know the latest gists
"Chaii Ife, amebo will not kill you, say amen" I laugh
"Me?, It's not your fault, I just wanted to be a good friend and tell you so you wouldn't be stale, I'm not telling you again" She makes to walk back to her seat, I hold her hand stopping her
