Dieko
"Kaabo awon omo mi (Welcome my children)" My grandmother hugs Dami and I tight
"How was your flight?" She asks "I don't know why your mother insisted on you people using plane, you could have just come by road instead"
"Iya (Mother), I've told you before, the roads aren't that good"
I don't hear my grandma's reply because I zone out, I notice a boy standing behind my grandma, he can't be over 18, he's sha somehow fine, I wait for my grandma to introduce him
"Eyin omo (Children), meet Ayo, he helps around the house" My grandmother says and I know that is her nice way of saying he's the house help
"Ayo, these are my granddaughters, Dami and Dieko, oya show them to their room so they can unpack and settle in"
"Okay ma" Ayo says
He offers to help me carry my box but I refuse after all me I have hands
Dami doesn't object though, she happily lets him
"How old are you?" Dami asks him as we climb the stairs
Elenu gboro oshi, you cannot keep your mouth shut
"Seventeen" He smiles
"So what school are you in then?"
"Umm, I don't go to school anymore"
"Oh" Dami says quietly, at least she can shut up now
The boy just points at my room door and then leads Dami to hers
The room is a little smaller than my former room back in Abuja but it's okay,
There's a door at my right that leads to the toilet and bathroom, a large wooden wardrobe stands next to the door and there's a medium sized bed that sits in the middle of the room, there's an air conditioner on the wall next to the dark green curtains that cover the windows
The walls of the room are painted a dark blue and there's a dresser just opposite the bed that has been pushed to the wall
I sit down on the already laid bed so I can unpack my stuff, my door opens and Ayo walks in
"I hope you're settling in fine?"
"Yup, thanks"
I continue to unpack, I wait for him to leave the room but he's still standing shining his teeth, ahan is this one confused?
"Oya be going now, or are you looking for something?" I blurt out
Chaii, this my mouth will not put me in trouble one day
"Yeah, I think you're pretty"
"Ehn, thank you, can you leave now?, you're making me feel uncomfortable"
Oya Dieko shut up, it has do
"Yeah, I'm making rice for lunch, so come downstairs soon"
"Okay" I force a smile
He leaves soon after which I'm thankful for

"Dieko, o ti se tan ni? (Dieko, aren't you done?)" I hear my mum shout from downstairs"I'm coming mum, one minute" I shout back
I stare at the mirror again wondering if I look okay, I had gone to the saloon yesterday to get a new hair do, I wanted to make pink braids but my grandma said I would look like a masquerade so I just made black
When I got back from the saloon yesterday, my mum was so angry, me I don't know why she was vexing o, she said I wasted money, let me explain what happened
She gave me 10k to make my hair but she naw said I should not use everything that I should only use like 6k to make my hair and bring the remaining home, but I was like what's the point of not using everything?, Why did she give me 10k if she didn't want me to use everything?, So I was like okay, but things changed because when I got to the saloon, I wanted to make waist length braids, the woman naw said it was 9k because I was going to use 3 fat attachments, so I just had to give her everything and bring back home only 1k
My mum almost flogged me, if not for my grandma ehn, Dami just made shoulder length braids so her own was not even up to 5k
I quickly pack the hair into a neat bun since I'm going to school today, mum had enrolled Dami and I into Kayron High School, weird name, I know, but there were two reasons mum had chosen to enroll us there
First, my cousin, Feyikemi goes to that school, she was one of the children of my mum's elder brother so mum felt she could show us around and help us settle in
The second reason, Kayron High was like one of the best schools in Lagos, accordingly to grandma sha so mum just wanted us to go there, you get naw
The uniform was okay, it consisted of a white long shirt with the school logo on the left chest side, a dark blue flare school skirt which was surprisingly kind of short (it stopped mid-thigh), a dark blue blazer with the school logo just like the white shirt and a pair of black knee-length socks, I liked it
"D, your mum said you should come downstairs now or you will have to miss breakfast" Ayo walks in
"Okay, I'm coming" I tell him
Since I've been at home for the past one week because mum was still trying to sort out our admission, I started talking to Ayo, he's weird but he's okay I guess, at least he's fine, Thank God for that one
"How do I look?, Does this uniform fit me?"
He nods "Yeah, you look good, the uniform really-"
"I did not tell you to say long story, one question that I asked you, you're reading epistle" I joke cutting him off
"Just have a great day at school"
"I will, thanks" I grab my school bag and leave the room

As mum stops in front of the extra large school building, an uneasy feeling settles in my stomach, I don't even know if it's hunger or fearI had skipped breakfast this morning because I thought I would throw up if I eat anything but right now I was starting to regret it
I step out of the car with Dami and mum and from the low black school gate, I see the swam of students walking about in uniforms similar to mine and Dami's
I'm so scared, what if they don't like me?, What if I don't make new friends?, Anyhow sha, I'm here already there's not turning back
Kayron High, here I come
•••••
Lol, Dieko's grandmother is just like my mum, she hates us making all those colors like pink or gold or blue, she said it makes people look mad😂Even the 9k she used, me I can't use 9k and make hair o😂💔, the slap I will receive ehn
