Chapter 3

The next few days went by fast. I tried out for archery team and made it. I also saw that Kili made the team. Maybe he is good. When the weekend came I was very happy. I've been waiting for this hang out to come. That morning I put my hair in a braid and got on my jeans and hoodie. Then a doorbell rings. "I got it!" I yell running down stairs. I opened the door and Kili was waiting. "Ready?" He ask. "Just a minute." I reply. "Who is that?" Ask Thranduil. "Just Kili!" I yell to him getting on my shoes. When I finally get them on, tripping down the stairs, and go outside we are ready. "Where are we going?" I ask. "I was thinking the archery range." Kili replies. "You really want to do that?" I ask. "We do have an archery competition in one month." He says with a smile. I laugh. "I was thinking of my secret hide out." I said thinking of an old building I use to spend time in. "Sure." He says.
We talk the whole time while we walk about our plans for life. Apparently Kili wants to be an artist. It's kind of shocking for him. He doesn't look like he would be an artist but yet Arwen doesn't look like she would be into Karate.
When we get there I go to the top floor trying not to cry. "What happened here?" Kili ask. I sniffle. "What's wrong?" He ask. "Did I do something?" "No, it's just, my parents died here." I say feeling my soul hollowing. "Oh, I'm so sorry Tauriel." He says pulling me into his arms. I gasp for a minute but let this moment last. I feel safe in his arms, I never felt this way. The only time I felt this way is when my mother or father held me and told me a story when I was a kid. But this was different, a different feeling. He starts to brush his hands over my hair and I close my eyes. Why am I doing this? I only known him for a week. "Are you okay?" He ask. I snap back to reality. "Yes." I say. He let's go of me which I never wanted. "If you don't mind, can you tell me the story of what happened?" Kili ask. I nod. "I was only seven. It was a Saturday in November, everything was going smoothly. Until a fire lit up on the floor below us. It went through our floor and the fire started burning our apartment. My dad and mom got me outside the door and we ran, but there was a lot of smoke. My mother passed out from the smoke then my dad and I. The ambulance took us to the hospital and I got better quickly. Unfortunately my mother passed away before I got to say goodbye. I got to say goodbye to my father then after a day in the hospital, he died. I was an orphan, it took a year until Thranduil adopted me. He wanted a little girl. My brother, Legolas, was kind to me but was always popular." I reply. "Wow, I'm so sorry." Kili says. "It's fine. It's over, nothing I could do." I say. "I know." He says. "My parents died too." "How?" I ask. "My mother died from cancer and my dad died when I was little. I don't know from what." He replies. "So you're an orphan?" I ask. "No, my uncle Thorin adopted us." He replies. "Oh well that's good." I say. He nods holding a stone. "What's that?" I ask. "My rune stone." Kili replies. "Why do you have it?" I ask again. "It's a promise." He says. "For?" I say. "A promise that I would return to my mother." He says. My heart stops. "I bet she was incredible." I say. "She was. I was only nine when she died." He says. "I'm sorry." I say sitting beside him. He smiles. "Don't worry, we have each other." He says. I look at him in suspense. 'Us? There could be an us?' I think.
I decide to smile back and I put my head on his shoulder. I want this moment to last forever. But it can't, not forever, only now. I soak up what I can and he wrap his arm around me which makes it better. "Tauriel?" He ask. "Hmm?"I ask. "Do you think there could ever be an us?" Kili ask. I pause for a moment. "Maybe." I say not certain of what Thranduil would say. His head leans on my head and we sit there for at least an hour.
That night I kept thinking of us. 'I fell in love with the boy I only known for a week.' I think. How did that even happen?
