Chapter 6 : Plans and preparations

This has turned into a difficult situation.

It was a typical Friday noon. Monika was doing the chores while I was checking for new emails. Yesterday's date was great. Both Monika and I enjoyed our time together. We even intended to go on a date again soon.

But everything becomes impossible as I received yet another mail from the Government. I begin to sweat in fear as I read the mail.

Dear A13,

We regret to inform you that your partner, Monika, is a threat to the national security of H city. As such, we are citing the National Security Law to ask you to bring Monika in. You have 36 hours to bring her to any of our bases. If you refuse to bring her in, a task force will be dispatched and we can not guarantee the safety of both you and your properties. Please cooperate accordingly or you shall bear the consequences.

I leave Monika at my computer so that she can read the mail. Meanwhile, I retreated back to my room, tablet in hand so that I can make plans. Of course I will never bring her in. I have until Saturday midnight to think of how to deal with this.

I come out of my room several hours later. I now have a plan. A bold and risky one, but it should work. I looked at Monika, she is sitting on the couch. Her expression indicates that she is deeply concerned as well. I approached her slowly.

'A13, can we seek help from the court again to appeal this?' Monika asked.

'I'm afraid not.' I said. 'National Security Law is executed directly by the government and cannot be repelled by any means.'

'So we are basically hopeless now? What can we do?' Monika looks like she is about to cry.

I calmed her down with a hug. 'Don't worry darling, I have a plan. It is a very risky one but if we somehow pulled it off we can get rid of this problem once and for all.'

Hope sparkles from Monika's eyes. She urges me to tell her about the plan so I did. After some elaboration, Monika looks at me with a worried expression.

'Are you sure this'll work?'

'Trust me. It might sound absurd, but your boyfriend is a militia. We can make it through and a promising future will await us.' I told her.

I texted Gavin and Jason on my phone. 'Please come to my home tonight at 8pm. We need to discuss about Monika.' In order for my plan to work I need help from both of them.

Gavin and Jason did show up at 8pm. I wasn't wrong about them being great friends. I invited them to sit down at my table when Gavin begin to speak.

'So what's the deal? I though everything is done after that trial.'

I hand them my tablet which displays the mail earlier. 'And this cannot be repelled by any one.' I explained as they read the words on the screen.

'Oh no! Now you are forced to turn her in. I feel so sorry for you!' Gavin looked at me with empathy.

'Don't feel sorry for me yet. I have a plan for this. But to do this I'll need your help. Long story short, Monika and I will leave this city and never come back. We will leave via the pier at tomorrow midnight when that pier is unguarded. We are going to steal a boat and sail towards the adjacent K city. Then we will change our identity and start a new life there.' I announced to all of them, 'But here is the problem. I can't escape earlier than tomorrow midnight as the pier is closed and unguarded only during weekend midnights. And the government will send troops toward me at that time......'
