talia's pov
+++
'talia, get your sleepy ass up before i push you out of your bed!'
i grumble lightly, and gingerly lift my head from the pillow. when i discover the slimy string of drool that hung from my mouth, i grimance, and wipe it off with the back of my hand. i push my chocolate locks from my face when i notice the dark sky on the other side of the window, and glance at the digital clock.
5:02 am.
calum's head pokes through the door. 'come on, tal!' he barks.
squinting my eyes due to fatigue, i furrow my eyebrows in confusion. 'but school doesn't start until 8.'
'to hell with school,' calum says with a flap of his hand. 'we're going to an interview.'
'calum, what the hell?' i whine, frustrated that my bewildered mind couldn't process his words at the wee hours of the morning. he simply rolls his eyes in reply, and stalks into my bathroom.
i mumble a few lines of gibberish, and plop my head back onto the pillow, ignoring the reeking stench of the puddle of drool that lies an inch from my nose. my eyes flutter close, and i feel my mind return back to its dreamy state. just as i was returning to swimming in a giant pool of chocolate milk, a cold splash of liquid awakens me once again.
my body jolts upward, and my eyes are fully open as the freezing water seeps through my thermal sweater, and into my skin. my arms raise and i stare down at the lake of liquid that was rapidly being absorbed by my bedsheets. i jerk my head up to see a smirking calum with a small bucket at hand.
'wha-whah...' i babble in disbelief.
he shrugs, yet the smirk remains. 'had to wake you up somehow.'
i rip the blankets off of my damp body to chase after him. he laughs, drops the pail and scurries down the stairs like a child. 'calum, you dipshit!' i screech, running after him.
he lets out another hysterical giggle, and i almost find myself chuckling at the immature sound. almost.
'try and get meeeee!' he yells mirthfully, running around the dining table in circular motions before heading up the stairs again.
i grunt, and run after him, leaving a wet trail behind me on the hard floor. i almost slipped on one of the steps, but i catch myself by getting a good grasp on the railing. i continue up the stairs in steadier pace, and stop in the middle of the hallway. i turn my head left and right, but there was no sign of calum.
'where are you?' i say in a loud voice. 'calum?' the only reply was silence. i sigh and slowly walk down the corridor, watching the doors of every room to make sure he wasn't hiding.
i return to the seen of the crime, my bedroom, and walk across to my bed. i hear a soft clicking noise behind me, and whip around. the door was locked.
i banged twice. 'calum, what the hell?'
'now you have to get ready for the interview,' he says, childish smug dripping from his words.
i exhale loudly. 'but i'm not feeling well. i'll probably catch pnuemonia because you dumped a freaking bucket of cold water over my head!' i shout the last words.
'i wouldn't have to dump a bucket of water over your head if you didn't fall back asleep!' he retorts.
'so it's my fault?!'
he groans. 'just get ready. please.'
i cross my arms and kick the door out of anger. 'fine,' i grumble, walking into the connected bathroom to brush my teeth.
when i return, i strip free of my wet clothes, and rub my damp skin absentmindedly with a fluffy towel. i tug on a pair of black skinnies, a thin black camisole, and a dark blue flannel over my shoulders. i pull on the knob of the top drawer of my dresser, and rummage through the compartment until i retrieve my hand with a gray beanie in my grasp. i tug it lightly over the crown of my head, and walk over to my vanity. my usual makeup only consists of many thick layers of mascara, and lip balm, but today i add a bit of dark eyeliner.
i pick a brown, leather slingbag from the knob of my (locked) door, and stuff it with my keys, wallet, phone, charger, and a pack of tissues. 'calum!' i yell. i hear a startled, shuffling noise, and my door is open. calum eyes me, and frowns. i roll my eyes. 'now what?' i ask, irritated.
'that outfit doesn't look very warm,' he, who was dressed in a hooded nirvana sweater, remarked.
'who are you? mum?' i spit. 'calum. i'll be fine. i'll wear my thick jacket.' i push past him, and he follows behind.
i grab my warm, brown boots from the end of the staircase, and zip them on. 'so what's with the last minute interview?'
'sunrise called me at midnight and apologized for the late notice. they had some shitty excuse about having a packed schedule... i don't know,' he said, leaning against the frame of the front door with his arms crossed, waiting for me.
'so are we meeting the guys there?' i asked, dreading the fact that i'd have to see michael.
'yeah. we're taking my car, and mike, luke, and ash are taking ash's car. they thought it'd be better to ride seperately since you and i don't really... want to be near michael,' he replies with a frown. i look up briefly to meet his eye, and i scrunch my nose.
i pull on my thick, leather coat, and we head out. we enter the car, and calum starts the ignition. we drive onto the road in a slow, steady fashion, weary of the moderately icy coats that layered the street.
'so uh. how was the talk with michael yesterday?' i question, fiddling with the hem of my jacket.
calum shrugged. 'okay, i guess.'
'are you guys still friends?'
'i don't know, to be honest.' we swerve to the right, and drive up the main highway.
'was he still mad?' i ask. i only earn a shrug.
i start another question. 'why do you think he-'
'why are you so annoyingly inquisitive?' he snaps, cutting off my blabber. i bite my lip, and look down ashamedly.
'sorry,' i squeak.
he notices my uneasy state, and takes a hand off of the wheel to stroke my arm. his eyes try to meet mine for a second before saying, 'talia i'm sorry. i didn't mean to-'
then there was a sound of a blaring horn, and the scraping noise of tires against ice. 'calum!' i shriek as his body engulfs mine.
his comforting scent was the last thing i remember before a truck slams into our vehicle.
