I smiled as I placed the little 4-year-old in my futon. Inevitably his eyes remained closes as he pulled my hand toward him, comforted in the knowledge I was there protecting him. I smiled at him as he continued with his soft and rhythmic breathing. As soon as I was sure he was out, I slowly released my hand from his grip and closed the door. This kid was lucky tonight.
I sighed while closing the door and walked towards the front of my home. I knew I was going to be in for interrogation by these two.
I turned the corner and there stood Benimaru and Konro. Benimaru gave his usual annoyed look while Konro gave his usual lack-luster and relaxed demeanor.
"You're a third-generation pyrokinetic?" Konro asked.
"I'm actually a hybrid of Third and Fourth Generation," I replied.
"I never heard of a Fourth-generation?" Konro stated quite baffled at my statement.
Probably them soaking in that single statement was enough for them to probably understand how strong I really was. Maybe they would reconsider their previous decision to have me on the force.
"How long have you had your abilities?" Konro continued to ask.
"For a while now," I replied, "I was going to tell you guys if you had let me joined the Brigade, but you didn't so I kept it a secret."
"Even if you had told us about your powers, the answer is still no," Benimaru said.
Oh, he knew exactly which buttons to push. I clenched my jaw but my face remains stoic as ever. Why he let me join? I clearly have the power to fight the Infernals! We don't have many people here in Asakusa who wielded pyrokinetic abilities!
"Do you agree with him Konro?" I asked turning my attention towards Konro who face held sheer panic. Even though he was the older one from us threw, this was something he didn't want to meddle with. A mediator or not, he knew he was in the crossfire of this.
"I-Um-"
"It doesn't matter what Konro's answer is, you shouldn't be fighting in the Brigade. We live by traditional Japanese values, meaning that women should only be tending to the booths, healing the men who fight in the Brigade when asked to, and be housewives," Benimaru said.
"He basically wanted me to be submissive," I thought as I glared at him and clenched my fist.
"Now wait Beni-" Konro began as he attempted to calm the situation down.
I was beyond mad at this point. I was furious by this incompetence and lack of understandings that women can fight alongside the men in the Brigade. I closed my eyes trying to best contain my anger. My blood started to boil. The familiar source of heat rise from my palms before spreading through my fingers.
"Iai Hand Sword: First Form: Fire Moon," I thought as I created a sharp blade of flame on the palm of my hand and swang it in the direction of both Konro and Benimaru, causing them to get blown out of my home by the white-crescent shaped flame.
I walked swiftly to my room and grabbed my sword and quickly closed the door on the sleeping child and walked back out. Since they weren't going to accept me into their little Brigade, I guess doing things the Asakusa way was the way they would listen to reason.
I pushed the Noren to the side and exited my home to see Benimaru and Konro slowly getting up from the blast and coughing a bit.
"Konro, are you okay?" Benimaru asked.
"Y-yeah," Konro said as he got up and turned his attention towards me to see I had placed my hand on the handle of my sword while glaring at the both of them. Steam was emitting from my mouth causing them both to sweat nervously.
