CHAPTER FOUR
ADDISON
❨ ♯ * ⋆ 💜 '𝟖𝟓 ❩Gracie and Lissa are undeniably insane. There's no other way to say it. They're this adorable comedic duo, and I'm debating whether to laugh or swallow the lump in my throat. Lissa reminds me of the best friend in books and movies I always wished I had. Gracie's a combination of an extroverted five-year-old and the cute shy girl at the back of your history class. I like the two of them, but I find their intense staring a little unsettling. I have a feeling Lissa's going to say something a little rash, but random declarations are better than uncomfortable silence.
"Okay," Lissa says. "You seem trustworthy enough. We should combine our trips."
Well, that is rash.
"What the frick, Lissa?" Gracie says, her hair whipping around as she turns to face Lissa.
"What? It's a good idea!" Lissa protests. "We're headed in the same direction. Why not go together?"
I almost agree with her. It's crazy, but I don't really have anything better to do. I should ask Saph what she thinks, though.
"Because we don't know each other!" Gracie raises her eyebrows at Lissa incredulously.
"Which can be fixed with a road trip together." Technically she's not wrong. But neither is Gracie.
"I'm not a murderer, if that helps." I say.
Gracie considers this for a second. "I mean, that is good..."
"See?" Lissa tells her.
"It's a little hasty, but I guess its not the worst idea," Gracie says. "And Addison, like, I'm not saying I don't trust you or anything."
"I get it." I say.
"So its decided, we're gonna be road trip buddies!" Lissa says. She playfully taps Gracie on her nose. "I'm so excited, Gracie!"
"Um," Gracie says. "I don't remember saying that."
"I don't remember you not saying that, either, " Lissa counters.
Gracie sighs, and leans across the table to me. My breath catches, and I hope she doesn't notice.
"Lissa's a bit bossy," She says in a stage whisper, cupping a hand next to her mouth like she's telling me a secret. "Crazy, too. Just go with it, I guess."
I nod.
"Unless you don't want to come." She adds.
"No, I do," I tell her.
"Cool." She sits back in the booth. "Yeah, Liss, we're road trip buddies. Congrats!"
Lissa smiles, probably choosing to ignore her teasing.
❨ ♯ * ⋆ 💜 '𝟖𝟓 ❩ "So you're telling me you met these girls today?" Sapphira asks. "And you're going on a road trip together?"
"Um, yeah."
"And you're leaving tomorrow?"
"Yes. I know I'm crazy," I say.
"You are, but I'm not blaming you," Saph says. "So, you like this Gracie girl, right?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, do you have feelings for her?" Sapphira tends to cut to the chase, which I don't necessarily appreciate here.
"I don't really know. I can't decide that after one day." I brush a strand of hair out of my face. "I mean, she's nice. And funny."
"So you've said," Saph remarks.
"She's also really pretty. But I don't know."
Sapphira sighs heavily. "Wow. You're really not gonna acknowledge it."
"What?"
"Think about it, Ads. I'm sure the universe will make everything clear soon."
"I said its a possibility, but I don't know yet, Saph!" I protest.
"Sure. Look, I gotta go now. Anais is making dinner, and she'll be upset if I'm not ready soon."
"Okay. I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow before I leave," I say, a little annoyed that she has to go.
"Sounds good," Saph says. "Love you, bye."
"Bye."
Well thanks a lot Sapphira. Now I'm going to overthink everything again.
