It was fairly past midnight. The boisterous celebration died down as people went to their homes. The big fire got smaller and smaller by minute. The smaller it got, the brighter stars seemed to be. Opeli got up, she was tired. But she did want to see Elowen, so she made her way. It took a few minutes to find Elowen. Opeli brought along the two cakes she bought earlier that day. Elowen was on the outskirts of the village over a hill. Opeli climbed up silently. Stopping for a few seconds, she noticed how Elowen looked: Pale moonlight illuminating her features, her long blond hair swaying in the light breeze, an expression not harsh but rather serene. The night was warm. Her black cloak was discarded on the grass. The cricket sounds filled the air. Opeli moved forward. With the rustling sound of the grass Elowen’s head snapped at Opeli. “Hey.” Opeli softly said. Opeli found it hard to start a conversation. “I-” she exhaled. “I thought about what you said. You were right. I was ungrateful. Sorry.” Opeli said while she sat beside Elowen. She looked at the view. The dim lights of the village, the starry night, the full moon above…Elowen harshly punched her arm . “Ow ow ow. Why did you punch me!?” Opeli asked. Elowen stayed silent for a while and answered, “You deserved it.”. Opeli rubbed her arm and puffed her cheeks. After a while, Opeli placed two cakes in between them. She looked at Elowen expectantly.
Elowen grabbed one of the cakes. The lion shaped one to be exact. She took a bite and her face went weird. “Ugh this is too sweet! Now I remember why I don’t like these cakes.” she said. Opeli smiled and took a bite from her own. Her face went sour, she shook her head. “Wow that one was too sour.” she managed to say. And kept on making faces due to how sour it was. She looked up and saw a very faint ghost smile of Elowen’s lips. Opeli extended her owl shaped cake. “Want a bite to tone down the sweetness?” she asked. Elowen took the cake and bit a single small bite into it. “It’s not even that sour you wimp.” she said and ate the whole cake. Opeli looked shocked. “Did- did you just- did you just eat the whole cake at once?” she asked. The look on her face was priceless. Big violet eyes laced with shock, strangely curved lips and knitted eyebrows. Elowen ficked Opeli’s forhead. “Like I said, you are a wimp.It is not even that sour.” “Oh yeah?” Opeli said playfully. Taking the sweet lion cake and eating it at two bites, she said “It’s not even that sweet.”.
It was that sweet.
She needed water despite having an immense sweet tooth.
Opeli tried her best to look normal. Like the sugar wasn’t kicking in. Deep down she knew she would have to run at least five laps around the hill to get the energy out. You’ll be fat for eating that.” Elowen said. “I have no regrets. I will one hundred percent do it again.” Opeli replied sounding proud. Elowen seemed unimpressed. “Doing stupid shit and being proud of it. Where else have I seen this before?" Elowen said. "I'm surprised how you just gave the argument up so quickly. I expected you to not talk to me for at least three days to be honest." Opeli said sheepishly. "You did admit I was right. Besides, when you were interacting with people you weren't really that joyful were you?" Elowen said. It was true. Opeli did interact with a smile on her face regardless the argument was stuck in her head. "Did I look that fake?" She asked Elowen. "...no. It looked all too natural." Elowen paused for a moment. "How did you know I was not that cheerful?" Opeli asked again. "You are an emotional idiot that's why. Not that hard to decipher really. I did expect you to be an over thinker. Back in Porrima when you were running from me, your moves were sloppy. You often looked around either to find someone or to hide. You were fast though." Elowen said as if it was a minor job she did. "How did you-" "Stop asking so many questions. I am a mercenary. Do you really think I wouldn't know what my victims do?" Elowen replied smirking. "Oh so I am a victim? How come I'm not dead then?" Opeli smugly said.Suddenly, sharp, cold steel touched her neck and she tilted her head her head backwards. "Mhm. Not dead yes, but that might be temporary if you keep pushing your luck.” Elowen’s sword was on Opeli’s neck again. But something else caught Opeli’s attention. The smell of alcohol. “Elowen, are you drunk?” she asked. Elowen looked at Opeli in the eye for a few seconds before answering. “No. I can tolerate alcohol.” judging by how late her answer was Opeli decided she was maybe not fully drunk yet but whatever she drank was slowly kicking in. Elowen seemed to squint her eyes when looking at Opeli, the grip on her sword loose, head barely high. Elowen looked around. Her eyes caught her tail. Swishing around, she looked at her tail, expressionless. Her blue eyes followed the blond tail of hers. She lifted her hands to catch her tail. Waited for a few seconds and then jumped to catch it. After a few failed attempts, she got more aggressive. Opeli however was doing her best to not burst into laughter at Elowen’s drunk antics. A muffled laughter left her lips and she covered her mouth. “You think it’s funny?” Elowen said, sounding pissed. From smug to calm to silly to aggressive, she had quite a lot of moods when drunk. “No. Not at all it’s not funny I definitely understand your struggle. I- please stop looking at me like that.” Opeli replied. She was scared of how Elowen was staring at her without blinking. “H-hey Elowen?” Opeli spitted out meekly. The next thing she knew, they were tumbling down the hill. Opeli hissed at the pain when she hit her head to a rock. “ Elowen what the heck!” Opeli slowly opened her eyes. The long hair of Elowen was dangling onto her face. Elowen’s piercing eyes were looking into her violet ones. “Come on, let me go Elowen.” she said. The smell of alcohol was very strong due to Elowen being closer. It was then Opeli noticed the position they were in.
Elowen was on top of Opeli.
The staring continued for a while. Peachy colors were starting to dust Opeli’s cheeks. “Okay, let’s get you back. You are clearly drunk.” Opeli got out of the position.
Elowen was having a hard time walking straight. Along the way, she mumbled nothings, cried, cursed and made the ten minute walk feel like one hour for Opeli. She led Elowen to her room. “But I needed that dagger so I said you know what, square up you red haired pig looking ass-” “Yes Elowen that was a very interesting story. But it’s late so you gotta sleep now ok?” Opeli cut Elowen’s story. “You are not the boss of me!” Elowen shouted. Opeli wanted to slap her for acting like a child but she knew it wasn’t Elowen talking. It was the alcohol. “Elowen would you mind drinking this?” Opeli asked while handing out a big glass of cold water to her. Elowen kept on complaining about how she could not be bossed around. She took the glass Opeli handed her and downed it in one go. Continuing complaining. After few more minutes Opeli decided to leave. She got up and went towards the door. “No! Don’t leave. Stay!” Elowen whined. Opeli was on the verge of going crazy. She shakily breathed out. “Ok Elowen I’m staying. What is it?” she said. Walking to Elowen’s bed and sitting on the edge.
