Opeli stood on the grounds of Mournfall once again. She sighed. Sage got her in a headlock while rubbing her hair with his fist. “Aha! That was a good punch. Oh man, I bet Balsam didn’t expect that from you.” Sage laughed. A soft chuckle was all Opeli could muster up. “ What do you guys say we go for a drink?” Sage asked cheeky as ever. “No offence, I feel like a truck ran over me. I’ll have to pass.” Opeli yawned. Opening her eyes she saw the confused expressions of the three. “What is a truck exactly?” Anisa raised her eyebrow. “A vehicle used for carrying heavy or large quantities of objects. So in other words, I feel beat up and tired.” Opeli explained. “Oh ok. Then again Sage, we did travel a very long way to find Opeli so I think it’s best if we were to leave the drinking for another day.” Anisa said. Sage shrugged as they went to their beds. Opeli, collapsing at the feeling of soft cushions of her bed, dived into sleep almost effortlessly. After all, she did have a big day of explaining what happened tomorrow.
Opeli woke up with the sun. And went out for a walk. The rustling sound of leaves eased her mind. How strange it was to think as soon as she woke up. What was she specifically thinking about? She was unsure. Yet, thoughts were swarming in her head. About Elowen. How she would explain her short journey to Sage, Anisa and Felix. How she could get better at magic and fencing. A frown appeared on her soft features. Opeli calmly breathed in and out. She swore she almost saw Elowen’s face soften last night. What Elowen did was so out of the blue for her. Why not just steal it while she slept? Why did she wait long enough to be caught on? In the first three days, she could simply have sliced Opeli’s throat, got the sword and went on her way. Why didn’t Elowen just do that?
Opeli massaged her temples. She hadn’t eaten or slept well during the last week. Deciding it would be the best to grab a quick bite, Opeli returned from her morning walk.
Elowen wa staring wistfully into the sunrise. The memory of the look Opeli had on her face stuck to her. Opeli was sad? Like the realization of something unpleasant came to her mind. Elowen had told her that they would meet again. And yet, this wasn’t the kind of see you soon she wanted to bid to the petite lady. She felt strange. As needles was being stabbed at her heart. It felt, pleasantly disgusting. Elowen hated the foreign experience. Ruffling her already messed up bang, she tried to distract herself. The bleeding nose of Balsam. Elowen really did want to laugh. Someone as weak as Opeli managed to hit Balsam hard enough. Of course, Balsam was not the best fighter among them. She remembered him and Sage fighting often and couldn’t remember a time Balsam had won. Yet this just made it even funnier for her. Considering how he was more experienced than Opeli but still managed to get a firm punch in the face.
Weeks had flown by. Turning into a month and a half. One would expect time to be so slow with what Opeli had to put up with. Learning the basics of fencing with Anisa, upon requesting every hour until making her insane, learning how to avoid blows and make good deals with Sage, sleeping with magic books on her stomach and learning the every bit of magic she could. Opeli wanted to ensure one thing: that she would not be the damsel in distress. Her mind kept on going back to Elowen. She would never admit it, but she also wanted to impress Elowen if they ever met again. Elowen did say she would see her soon. Opeli was unexplainably excited by her words. Along with that, she wanted to be able to protect herself. To not be dependant on Sage, Anisa and Felix to protect her. She had already been putting her new skills to test when she went out to bounty hunt with Sage.
That day, she was out with the three. Opeli had just came back from bounty hunting and Felix & Amisa had tagged along with them to The Saucy Gull. When Opeli had told them about the time she spent with Elowen, choosing her words very carefully and not telling about the time she got drunk, Sage was so shocked. “Are you sure that was Elowen? You know with blond hair, dressed in black?” Sage had asked. The rest of the night she kept on telling was pretty festive with the laughs and sassy commentary of Felix.
