Opeli had a hard time sleeping. The memories kept repeating in her head. “No drinks for Elowen anymore.” she thought. What would happen today? Would Elowen remember what happened? Even if Elowen didn’t wouldn’t Opeli would. And if Elowen did remember, the conversations would be weird. She groaned at how awkward things could be if Elowen remembered. Her face would always get red with those memories. She prayed gods for Elowen to think of it as a dream. She laid awake in bed. Specks of sunlight were shining on her hair and face. Her window open, the chirping sounds of birds could be heard. For the first time in forever she had decided to let her hair down. She liked it in a bun but sometimes she had t let her hair flow. She felt the chill breeze sweep a few strands of her hair. This was a nice distraction.
Elowen woke up with a headache. She remembered drinking in a bar, going up a hill to get some fresh air, eating a sour cake… And then her vision getting a little fuzzy. The alcohol hit later than she expected. To be honest, she didn’t even expect to get drunk. Getting up, she decided it would be nice to slap on some water to her face. She got in front of a mirror and looked up.
Her breath hitched.
There was a dark purple lipstick stain on her forehead. And only one person had dark purple lips. She gulped. “Is that, what- what the hell happened?” Elowen asked herself and looked back in her room. There was Opeli’s cloak on the floor. But no sign of Opeli herself. Elowen was starting to get ideas. And so a little red dusted her cheeks. “Pfft- don’t be ridiculous. Neither you nor she would do that. She isn’t even that bold.” she thought. The more Elowen thought however, the more pissed she got. She told Opeli to not touch her when she petted her head back in the forest. Yet it seemed that she had gone beyond that. “That idiot.” she thought as she stomped off to find Opeli’s room to give her a solid punch in the arm.
The serenity of the morning ended when Elowen started hitting Opeli’s door. Opeli groaned. “Well, here goes nothing.” she said and opened the door. “EXPLAIN. NOW.” Elowen shouted while pointing at her forehead. Opeli had completely forgotten about the stain it would leave. She gulped nervously. “Well do you want me to tell what happened when you were drunk or why is that stain on your face?” Opeli noticed she was getting redder so she turned away from Elowen and faced outside through the window. “Both.” Elowen said. “Oh, ok uhm, so you got drunk. Pushed us off a hill. I apologised to you about the fight yesterday. While I was taking you back you complained about someone not giving you a dagger. I managed to get you to your room and-” from that point on Opeli only spoke in murmurs “Opeli what are you saying. Opeli, hey Opeli!” Elowen grabbed Opeli by her arms and slammed her against a wall. “What happened? Answer me slowly.” Opeli stopped altogether. “You never called me that.” she whispered. “Called you what?” said Elowen. “You never called me by my name.”. Realization dawned on Elowen. She never actually did call Opeli by her name. Opeli giggled softly. “You look shocked.” she said. Elowen looked at Opeli. She was smiling softly, her face was red, and her hair was down. At first sight Elowen didn’t notice how silky and long Opeli’s hair was. Specks of light were lighting up her violet eyes. She looked beautiful. Elowen swallowed and there was knot in her throat. “Why are you red. Opeli what did I do?” Opeli averted her eyes and got redder. Elowen was starting to believe she actually did something. “Opeli. Look at me.” she said demanding. They were too close. Elowen pressed Opeli harder to the wall. “I- uh- ah -” Opeli manage to stutter and then
Opeli fainted.
Elowen had carried Opeli to her bed. her face was burning when she touched it. Judging by that reaction she did indeed either did something or tried to do it. She sat on the edge of Opeli’s bed. Forcing herself to remember, red dusted her cheeks after recalling a few scenes. One specific scene managed to stand out from the rest. Opeli straddling her waist. “Am I ok? Is this normal?” Elowen asked herself. She looked at Opeli. Her hair was sprawled out, she looked calm. She would wake up in a few minutes. Elowen decided to not press the matter. Pretending it didn't happen was the choice of Elowen. Elowen stepped out of Opeli’s room. They now had to travel to Porrima after all.
And maybe, Elowen thought… she would tag along.
Until Elowen saw them.
