Mew and the children waited patiently as doctors checked on Gulf. Both Zee and Saint refused to leave the room. They even stayed with Gulf while eating their lunch. His mother even made them sandwiches after they threw tantrum refusing to leave Gulf alone. Everything seemed fine with Gulf other than the stab wound on his abdomen. The doctor told them that Gulf's wound would fully heal in a few weeks. He should not move about too often or carry heavy loads. The doctor then prescribed some medicine for Gulf to take and he informed that he would be back in one week to check on the wound. After the doctors left, the children clambered up on the bed but Mew carefully pulled them away and told them to be extra careful.

"I want to hug Gulf!" Zee demanded.
"Me too!" Saint pouted.
"You can... but one at a time.. and let me hold you." Mew explained.
'Gulf is still in pain... his stomach needs healing... so we have to careful. Are we clear?" Mew asked and the children nodded.

Mew held Saint in his arm and cautiously let the child wrapped himself around Gulf's neck.

"I love you Gulf."
"I love you too Saint."
"I am your brother forever!" Saint smiled.
"Of course." Gulf smiled back.
"You sleep for soooooooooo longgggggggg.... don't sleep ever again."Saint pouted.
"I shall try my best." Gulf smiled and kissed his nose.

It was Zee's turn. The child was already sniffling before he even hugged Gulf.

"I missed you." Zee cried.
"I missed you more." Gulf kissed his forehead.
"Mew said you were resting! People don't rest like that!"
"Maybe I'm special." Gulf smiled.
"I don't want you to be special then!"
"As you wish." Gulf looked up at Mew and gave a bewildered look.
"You can let go now Zee... Gulf needs to eat and take his medicine." Mew urged. Zee slowly untangled himself from Gulf.

The children still refused to leave Gulf alone. They were there when Mew fed his muse soup. Saint nearly spilled the soup all over his brother. They were there when when Mew gave Gulf his medication. Zee's arm accidentally nudged the small tray with Gulf pills on it hurling the contents all over the floor. They came up with a compromise. They would play quietly in the room and not disturb Gulf at the farthest corner of the room for one hour. It was easier said than done. The two kept on bugging Gulf for anything and everything. Mew knew they missed Gulf but his muse was still healing. He was at his wits end when his mother came into the room and by simply talking and rationalising with the two; they agreed to leave Gulf for the afternoon and left him to rest. Mew was so thankful for his mother. Mew and Gulf were finally alone. Gulf stared at Mew then he sighed.

"How did I get here?" Gulf looked around the big spacious room.
"I brought you here."
"What... what happened?" Gulf's voice was hoarse.
'Where's my mother?" His eyes filled with tears. His muse seemed to know the impending answer.

Mew walked to his bed and sat on it. He then gathered Gulf in his arms and let him cry.

"She asked us to run." Gulf whispered.
"I didn't want to leave her but she begged me."
"How did you get injured?" Mew asked.
"He had a knife... he was going to ... to... hurt Zee and I stopped him."
"You could have died Gulf." Mew said.
"I would do anything for my brothers. Wouldn't you?" And Mew nodded.
"He has always been crazy... especially when he drinks... that day... he was frustrated with something... he went ballistic."
"Did... did my mother suffer?"
"No... she didn't... Don't think too much Gulf." Mew murmured as he ran his hand up and down Gulf's back.
"She loved us... but she loved him more..." Gulf explained.
"I wanted to run away but then... They adopted Saint and Zee... I couldn't leave them." Gulf gave a sad smile.
"They shouldn't have taken any of you in!" Mew growled.
"She couldn't have children... It was her who wanted to adopt."
"Father... well... he... " Gulf could not continue.
"Don't talk about him if you don't want to."
"Where is he now?"
"In custody." Mew replied while Gulf nodded.
"I wish I could have done more." Gulf whispered.
"I wish I could save her." He continued.
"You cannot control everything. You cannot have everything you want sometimes." Mew consoled him.
"I wish I could turn back time and save all of you from ever meeting him!" Mew spat.
"Me too Old Man... Me too." Gulf murmured.
"You can call me Old Man until the day I die." Mew smiled.
"I thought I lost you... I couldn't live with myself if that happened." Mew admitted.
"I'm grateful to God that you are here with me. That you are here for your brothers." Mew continued.
"Now... it's time for your medication." Mew brought his pills. He smiled looking at Gulf's face.
"Don't think too much. Rest first. We have forever to talk. And don't worry about Saint and Zee. They are with my mother and they also have me."
