Red was still shocked, but there wasn't many things he could do. ANd that's not for a lack of trying: texting, calls, attempts of visits...Hell, he even sent letters! But nothing. No answers at all. When he tried to visit him, Papyrus welcomed him, but he told Red that his brother didn't want to see him. That broke Red's Soul. He felt...abandoned...betrayed. But...the look on Sans' face...as if he had saw a ghost...That had scared Red. He had wanted so much to help Sans. But for that,he needed Sans to open up to him. But it was clear that it wasn't Sans' intention at all. So what choices did he have? That was why he found himself in front of Dr.Friskful's door, his skull low as the thoughts of Sans swirled in his mind. He was so lost that he hadn't seen a hand waving in front of him. "Hey!" "Ah! Wh-What?" "Ah, finally! I was starting to worry, Red!" "I'm sorry, I didn't- Hey, wait a minute, how do ya know my name?!" "...You don't remember?" Red pondered for a minute, his interlocutor begining to frown and worry, before Red gasped, looking embarassed. "Dr.Friskful!" "Phew, I was begining to be really concerned, there!" She gave him a small smile, to which a gave back a poor imitation of a smile. He entered in the room, standing in the middle of said room, awkward.
Natia looked him, concerned. She had followed closely his progress, having noticed that he was way more stable since Sans decided to care for him. But now... She too had been shocked by Sans' decision. He called her suddenly, not even wanting to see her, and he told her with tears in the voice, before ending the call. What choices did he haven but doing what Sans had requested? She shhok his head, focusing on her task at hand. Right now, she had to take care of Red. "So, Red. How about you take a sit, and tell me how you had been lately?"
Red was now staring at the floor, silent. This session had been...particular. Red hadn't been really talkative. He couldn't focus on what the Doc asked him. At first, she has thought that it was his state that aggravated, she quicklyguessed that it had to do with Sans' sudden change of mind. ...Maybe he would prefer talking about this? "Tell me, Red. Do you know what happened to Sans?" The reaction was immediate. Red shot up, pacing in front of her, his hands gesturing as if they had a life of their own. "I don't know! We were talking about the nightmare I had, and then... He began ta hypperventilate, ta babble nonsensically. He was panicking, and suddenly, he threw up on the floor, sobbing and lost. Before I could say anything, he was gone. And since, then, the only thing he told me was that it would be ya who would take care of me. I tried everything, I really did! But nothing worked..." Wow. Tha had been the most talkative he had been since the begining of their session. "And...What was your nightmare about?" "Is that important? I thought we were talking about Sans!" "Well, what you said may have awaken something in Sans, Soul. Something that put him in such state." "Oh...I see." Red sat back on his seat, fiddling with his fingers, and began to talk.
Natia's eyes were still closed, still processing what Red told her. Said monster had his skull hanging low, small tears at the corner of his eyesockets. She could hear soft sniffs here and there. By the sound of it, Sans hadn't time to talk about it with Red. So, she had to take care of it, it seems. "Red, how old were you?" "Wh-What?" "How old were you when this incident happened?" "...In m-monster t-time? O-Or human t-time?" "Erm... in monster time?" "...I was thirteen. Why?" She looked at him, sadly, before geeting up, only to crouch down in front of him. "Red. What happened wasn't your fault." "But-" "No but. You were only thirteen! A young teenager. You were influenced by those people." "I could have stopped them!" "You were young, and alone, against a group of at least three people in good shape. You wouldn't have been able to." "..." "Moreover, you have a younger brother. What is the age difference between you two?" "...six years." "Meaning that he was only seven. Had you do that, they could have killed you, meaning that your brother would have been alone. And something tells me that this isn't something you would have wanted, right?" "..." Red didn't answer, being lost. All those years, he had thought that he had been at fault, that he could have done something. And here she was, telling him otherwise. "What do ya know of this? Maybe he would have been better without me!" He snapped, tears slidding down. "Without his older brother? All alone? Feeling that he had been left behind, betrayed?" "Stop that..." "No. This is something you need to hear. None of what happened was your fault. Nothing. YOU didn't have the idea of robbing this monster. YOU didn't kill him. And YOU didn't leave him like that. You have to stop blaming yourself that something you never did." Red was sobbing by now, his skull in his hands and his shoulders shaking. Natia let him do, gently patting his femur.
After a while, Red had somewhat calmed down, they went back to the subject at hand.Sans. "So, what he understood, is that you blamed yourself for someone's death. I know now what happened." "What is it?" Natia got up, and went to her desk. She searched in her drawers, before letting a small 'Ahah!' victorious. She went back with an old newspaper. The headlines read 'Death by incompetence: a monster's fault.' Red didn't like where it leads. She handed him the paper for him to read. And he wasn't disappointed at all:
'Last week, a tragic event took place in the prestigious ..... Hospital: a patient commited suicide in front of their practicien. This person, ....... ........, was suffering from a deep psychological trouble, and had been treated for years in this institute, but had recently been forced to change his doctor. From that moment, his condition worsened. And so, a Thursday morning, this person reached his last straw, and decided to end their lives. Their family decided to sue the hospital, but gave up if the person, or in this case, the monster who was responsible from this tragedy. ANd today, the news fell: this monster, the Dr ..... had been fired from this institute, but as a sign of their incredible leniency, they allowed the monster to keep practicing, but their next mistake would be the last...'
Red was left speechless. Did...Did he read it right? Sans...had seen one of his patients die? No wonder the guy was depressif! But... That was awful? And... why does he have the unpleasant feeling that something was missing... Something that someone was keeping far away from them. "What do ya know about this?" "What you read in this article, nothing else. Just that after, he had apparently been transfered in the worse institution I've ever seen." "...Erm..." "I don't talk about the patients or the people working there, but the way the people ruling the institute are doing it." "...If ya say so." "Anyway, all I know is that he was briliant, in a prestigious institute, and the other day, he has been sent there, reduced to a simple doctor. And that's something I found... suspicious." "Really?" She nodded, looking intrigued. "I made some researches, and his cursus was briliant, his thesis was really good, and the patients he had followed before are quite alright now. So I can't help but wonder how all of this happened." Red listened, his skull low. A simple medical error? Or...what it something else? He had to know. He got up suddenly, startling a little the Dr. Friskful. "I'm sorry, doc. I have ta go." "...Where exactly?" "...Ya don't have ta know. But I'll be back soon." And with that, he left the room, with Natia in it, still on a chair, knowing where it would lead. She just hoped that everything would go fine...
