(y/n)'s POV

Lucky for me, the day of my one year anniversary with Janis happened to be the weekend when the fair was coming into town.

I was taking Janis there for the day for our anniversary, and I was beyond excited. It was a really nice day, and we were gonna have a fantastic date.

I heard a knock on the door to my small apartment when I had just barely finishing doing my hair.

"Come in! It's unlocked." I called out, grabbing my backpack which functioned as a purse and stuffing my jacket inside. I heard the door open as I was grabbing my phone and keys and stuffing them in my pocket.

"Heyyy, baby. You ready to go?" Janis asked, immediately grabbing my hand. At this point, constant physical touch had become an unconscious habit, we didn't even realize how close we always were.

"Yeah, of course, lets skidaddle!" I told her lightly, dragging her out the door and closing it behind me, pulling out my keys to lock it.

"Did you seriously just say skidaddle to me?" She laughed incredulously. I pouted, moving to grab her hand which she evaded as we started walking.

"Yes I did in fact." I said defiantly.

"I'm breaking up with you." She snorted.

"You wouldn't dare! On our anniversary, no less!" I gasped dramatically, holding back the giggles that threatened to spill out and make my words unintelligible.

"It's not my fault you used that dumb phrase." She retorted.

"Don't I get a pass for a special occasion?" I asked, holding the door for her as we left the apartment building. She looked back at me, examining me for a long moment before sighing.

"Fine, only because you're cute." She rolled her eyes, grabbing my hand again.

"Yay! Dang right I am!" I cheered, earning a carefree laugh from my gorgeous girlfriend.

We continued to chatter lightheartedly on our way to the fairground, with me earning many groans in fake annoyance out of Janis. It was a fun game to see how long it would take her to break and stop pretending to hate my guts. My personal record was a whole ten minutes.

When we got there, there were so many games to play. There was even a huge Ferris wheel, adorned in numerous twinkly lights that I was sure would be stunning come nightfall.

When I looked beside me, I saw Janis gazing up at it with an unreadable expression, so I tapped her shoulder as a distraction.

"Let's go play some games!" I squealed, grabbing her hand to drag her towards our first victim- I mean destination: a classic carnival game.

"Not to brag, but I'm pretty great at ring toss," I informed her cockily with a wink.

"Suuuure, prove it." She challenged.

"Alright. If I win, you buy me lunch. If I lose, I'll buy yours." I declared, grabbing a dollar to give to the attendant of the game.

"You're on. Can't wait for free lunch." Janis snickered.

The attendant handed me three little rings and stepped aside silently for me to play. I narrowed my eyes in concentration, carefully examining the bottles.

First ring: landed.

Second ring: miss.

I could feel Janis lean closer, almost throwing me off my game as I shook my head, clearing my mind to concentrate.
