"Amish?" I ask him. I couldn't believe it. Amish. People who lived practically like the stone age.

"Yes. Amish." He says and sips his water again. Is he being serious right now?

"If you're Amish, why are you in New York?" I ask him genuinely curious.

"It's a long confusing explanation." he says. "I have time." I say. He turns and looks at me for a moment. He looks to the dance floor, probably searching for Nathaniel; and looks back at me.

"I'm sure your friend is alright." I tell him.

"Is there a quieter room?" he asks me.

I shake my head and motion him to follow me. I take him to the back of the club and open a door which leads up to private rooms for talking and drinking when the people need a break from the loud music.

We sit on one of the couches and I wait for him to begin talking.

"Well as I told you I am Amish." he starts. I nod my head at him.

"Why are you not dressed like you were earlier?" I ask him.

"Were here to experience a new enviroment different from our own. Just because I am Amish doesn't mean I'm not curious about other things. I always wanted to try new clothings but of course they are forbidden in the community." he says.

"So why are ya'll here now?" I ask him.

"We all turned eighteen. Once a year all of the kids who turned eighteen all go to a large city and stay for a month. You experience a new enviroment and live like them and if you want to stay you never come back to the community. You never see your family again. Your practically banished. If you want to go back you go. I guess you always have the choice to leave if you're not for sure the first time." he explains to me. I nod my head at him and lean on my hand.

"Do you think you're friends will go back?" I ask him.

He sighs and shrugs his shoulders.

"Pearl may stay. She is more of a free spirit than anyone I know. I can never really tell what Nathaniel is thinking. He's very quiet and reserved. He may surprise me." he says. I smile at him.

"Will you go back?" I ask him.

He looks at me for a moment before answering my question.

"I don't really have a choice." he sighs.

"Everyone has a choice Elijah." I tell him. He shakes his head at me and looks away.

"Everyone but me." he mumbles.
