I twirled around in front of my mirror. I had sold off all the wood I had thrown into the furnace the day before. To kill time, I used up the remaining fabrics of my family's  kimono shop to make new clothes for both me and Rui. A fresh start, you could say

I learnt my sewing skills from my grandparents when I was little, but one day, in the middle of the night, they vanished. Terrified, I ran to Rui's house. We often spent time together when we were little, so going there was the first thing that came to mind. By the time morning came around, only bones were left. No one knew what happened, and thinking about it gets me nowhere.

My hand-sewn kimono had flowery pink and white patterns on it, one my grandma loved. An old half-white and pink haori was worn over top, one that was passed down to me.

As a surprise, and an attempt to reconcile, I made Rui a new one, too. The kimono had web-like patterns on it with white as the background. Along with the red dots on the collar of the kimono, it looked pretty cool. The inspiration was a red-dotted white spider which Rui absolutely refused to let me kill.

The mountain trail leading to Rui's house was quite steep, but it was my home, and I love it. The familiar house finally came into my vision. But, something was off. The front door was torn down, blood-covered and all.

(WARNING! Gore!)

A blood trail led the way into the house. I took a deep breath, trying to push away thoughts of what might greet me a few steps ahead. I walked slowly. Step by step.

I entered the house, and I could see... blood drops leading to Rui's parent's room. I opened the door.

My breath caught in my throat as I tried not to retch at the sight. I wanted to look away, but I couldn't. I couldn't tear my eyes away no matter how hard I tried, believe me.

Lying in a pool of blood in the center of the room was Rui's parents. Being an orphan, they were the only people whom I considered to be my own family. Their throats were slit, their eyes and mouth open at unnatural and disturbing angles.

Their skin was discoloured and the blood that sprayed from their necks was drying on the walls. The pool of blood on the floor surrounding the body was thick enough to soak the rug and seep through the broken floorboards.
(Gore ended)

The sense of reality hit me like a truck. Hell, I wished I could be hit by one right about now.

With my trembling body, I closed my eyes reluctantly, pulled the gift closer to my chest and stepped over the bodies. Slamming open the door to Rui's room and studying it, I gulped. Everything was well... everywhere. Spilt green tea on the floor, the curtains ripped out, everything.

I eventually laid my eyes on Rui. He was lying on the blood-covered floor, seemingly sleeping soundly. He was unharmed, so whose blood was it? I looked at his pale skin, lily-white, and immediately put him into my embrace. I felt his cold skin come into contact with mine and hoped that this was just some sick, sick joke.

"Please don't be..." I held my breath.

I checked his pulse and felt a light 'ba-bump'. His breathing was normal, but his features were a different story. His hair was completely white, as if someone bleached it a hundred times. His skin was shockingly pale and felt cold to the touch. There were familiar red patterns scattered all over his body. Finally, he began to stir and wake up.

"Oh my goodness, Rui?" He wrestled me to the ground, and I hit my head, hard.

He made indescribable sounds that made him seem like a wilder beast. Drool dropped down from his mouth creepily and I cringed. His hands pushed mine and tried to grab hold of me.

He bit my neck, not enough for me to suffer from blood loss but enough so that it would leave a nasty scar. I shoved him away and took a breather. He growled at me lowly, like a wild beast eyeing its prey.

"Rui! What are you doing? Cut it out already!" I got cut off again as we wrestled.

His hands wrapped around my neck, trying to strangle me. Just as I was about to pass out from asphyxiation, he loosened his grip, his body drooping over mine, his long claw-like nails leaving a mark around my neck.

I took long, deep breaths, trying to calm myself. Flipping him topside, I rested him on the part of the ground that was not practically covered in shattered glass pieces. He rested peacefully, his lily-white hair covering his face.

"Now what?" I sighed, squeezing my eyes and dropping my head, my messy hair mixing with the blood-stained glass. I was hopeless. Undeniably hopeless.
