He began to stir, and I stiffened. He sat up, wiping the little glass pieces sticking to his body, and I kept my distance. Eventually though, he made eye contact with me.

His eyes were a terrifying red and his pupils were an obscure shape, a huge change from his old violet eyes.

"I..." he looked down at his hands, and at a shattered mirror that was hanging onto dear life to stay on the wall. His gaze fell onto the wound on my neck.

"You're hurt," he finally spoke. His eyes were a like a ruby ocean— crimson and pure. Yet, filled with an indescribable sorrow.

"I's not your fault. I know it wasn't. Tell me what happened. Tell me everything," I stared into his eyes, my gaze firm.

"I remember a man opening the door to my room, but I didn't recognise him. I thought you just came home late." He fiddled with a shard of broken glass. He has had this habit ever since he was a child. He would get nervous and find other mindless ways to distract his shaken mind.

"He was wearing a suit, and had piercing red eyes," He looked to the mirror once more.

"Just like... me," he whispered, gulping down a lump in his throat.

"He told me that he could cure me, that I could be like everyone else. But I..." he bit back his tears.

"I tried to refuse, I swear! I didn't want to trust him, but all I remember was him knocking me out and when I woke up, I was already like this..." his lips quivered more with every word that came out of his mouth.

I fumed silently.

He took my hand in his, and I could practically feel all his emotions from his touch.

"How are Mom and Dad?" He asked me softly.

I shook my head.

"Oh..." was all he could muster.

"Rui, this is all so... crazy," sighing, I buried my face in my hands.

"I know it is," he whispered, sadly.

"I'm so glad that you still trust me for who I am. Even after... I y'know... almost killed you," he whispered the last part.

"How many times do I have to tell you? It's not your fault," I said, cleaning my wounds and bandaging them up.

He helped me bandage my twisted arm, awkwardly offering me his company.

"Are you hungry?" I asked.

"A little. But mostly tired," he stretched, sitting back down.

After a few moments of appreciating each other's warmth, I couldn't hold it in anymore.

"Rui.. I," I whimpered. I could feel the tears rushing to my eyes as i burrowed my face in his chest.

"What're we going to do..." I cried and cried, Rui only able to offer me his comforting, kind whispers.

Hours of crying passed by, and I ultimately could only feel numb.

"Let's take our leave," I whispered, nose still stuffy.

Suddenly, the door to Rui's room slid open, slowly and menacingly. A female silhouette was all I could distinguish.

"Hm? What do we have here?" A lady with beautiful purple hair stood infront of us, smiling.

I instinctively moved closer to Rui.

She drew her nichirin sword, the metal gleaming in the sunlight. She fixed her gaze on Rui.

It's when life is almost at its end, when you really start to realise it's importance.
