The Infected & The Healer

Part 5

I stared in shock wondering if he knew my secret but thankfully a scream came from the distance snapping me to attention forgetting everything but jumping off the building and saving the person in peril. I landed in a tuck and roll without injury. I easily jumped over the fence after using a car as a launch-pad. Sprinting towards the screaming and yelling I grabbed my crossbow shooting a boy and three corpses. The girl who let out the first scream crumpled crying and screaming over the boy. Miles caught up shocked to find one of my arrows in the boy's chest he turned the boy over and jumped back in surprise realizing what I did. He walked over to the girl and started to calm her down while she stared at me murderously. I hauled the boy over my shoulder ignoring the blood trickling down my back and staining my white t-shirt while the girl still stared with questioning look. Miles knew what I was doing but he didn't say anything. The girl who was sobbing told us that her name was Zoe and she also said that the boy, Max, was her boyfriend. I gave her a look of sorrow knowing what she had been through but I experienced it with Jojo before the apocalypse and he almost died, too. We got to base quick and I told Mia to bring a lighter, trash bag, and bullets. I put Max on a table and waited for Mia. She came bounding towards us and asked if Max was dead but I didn't answer knowing Zoe was a few feet away but she figured out that I didn't know based on the trash bag. I first had to pull out the arrow from Max's chest and poured the bullet's gunpowder in and over his wound. I told Mia to close her eyes but she said she wanted to be a healer so she watched. I lit the lighter and crossed my fingers hoping Max would live as I lit the gunpowder. Zoe started to scream then she came at me and I was knocked to the floor. I saw it coming and I rolled on my back so I ended up pinning her to the ground holding her mouth shut and told her to watch Max. I guess she felt intimidated that I was able to overcome her as fast as she attacked so she obeyed. Miles and I backed up giving her and Max time together if he actually died. Yet Zoe never realized that Max was still alive because I didn't hit his heart, I hit the place where he was bit.

When Zoe saw Max breathing heavily she looked at me horrified as if I skinned him and then shook Max awake but Miles had to grab her before she bulldozed Max with affection. I felt so incomplete because I didn't know which was worse letting Max die or healing him because I shot him. But I forgot everything when Jojo tackled Miles crashing onto the stage punching him so hard it drew blood. Miles pushed him off and picked Jojo up and slammed him against the wall. I ran up to both of them while I took off my t-shirt and adjusted my tank top screaming off my head yanking the two apart with all my rage, sadness, and strength ,which worked by knocking both boys off their feet and landing on top of something. Jojo and Miles looked at me amazed wondering how I managed to knock both of them off their feet in 2 split seconds, but Miles then remembered my secret and looked at Jojo probably wondering if he knew. I threw my t shirt at Jojo giving him a look of gratitude for noticing the blood and thinking it was mine. But I looked at Miles like he was a corpse who managed to check me out without others noticing every once in a while. If he really did know my secret than he would tell everyone and they would fear me. Just because of what I was and what I've done to people. I actually wonder if Miles did know my secret. He probably found out about me and Jojo the other night. It never occurred to me that he knew about Jojo and I together on our date. But it made sense on how he found out since he saw Jojo pick me up bridal style and guessed we were on a date the other night. I walk to the girl's quarter and I flop on my bed. I grumble and then scream when someone grabs me by my forearms. Then I see Max looking surprised that I screamed."Why'd you scream?" He asked really curious. I didn't say much except that when Jojo was beaten by his mom in the past, he came to my house and collapsed on my doorstep and when I screamed and tried to wake him someone grabbed me the same way and pulled me away from him and I didn't see him for a month and a half. He looked shy and asked if Zoe did the same and I said yes with the bonus of murderous looks and maximum volume screams. He laughed when I said that and looked relieved. I asked why he was in the Girls quarter and he said to talk to me so I went to the lounge and pulled out a paper with rules on it (thankfully Kevin made it) telling him to remember them and I walked off to fumble again hopefully not interrupted. I jinxed it though because I saw Mia jumping on my bed waiting for me to follow her outside. As we walked out I looked around realizing that the school really needs a landscaping genius. Than I saw the most beautiful thing I've seen since the beginning of the apocalypse. Mia grinned mischievously when I asked her what a garden was doing on the school field and shrugged her shoulders happily skipping away with her pigtails swaying like waves. I turned to look back at the garden and I find Jojo swimming in the pond looking at me like I couldn't take a hint but I was already running away to find my swimsuit. I threw it on, flew to the pond and did the biggest cannonball. ⭐He wrapped his hands across my bare back and surfaced me smiling his dazzling smile waiting for me to kiss him. I leaned in and put a koi fish right in his face while I made kissing sounds. He stumbled and went under the surface. Next thing I knew was he picked me up by my hips and threw me over his shoulder walking up a stream he made connecting the pond and lake of the side of the school. He put me on a rock and leaned over me with both his arms extended on either side of me and placed a perfect kiss on my lips.
