Person B and Person A rode in silence as they drove, eyes glued to the road. Person A was in the passenger seat with his head leaning back, trying to relax for the ten minute car ride. Person B gripped the steering wheel tightly, clearly anxious about what they were doing.

    The two had been dating for about a month, desperately trying to hide it from everybody. They wanted their relationship to be something personal, something that only the closest friends and family knew about. So now, they are taking the first step in telling someone. They were going to tell Person's B parents, the first people to know about it.

    Person A looked over to the left to see his boyfriend tapping his finger. The silence wasn’t comfortable, but it wasn’t awkward either. So Person A tried to start a conversation. “How do you think they are going to react?”

Person B stopped tapping his finger and relaxed a little, but he was still a little tense. “I don’t know. Hopefully good.”

Person A hummed in response and moved his head to look out the window. He sighed and focused on the passing trees until they got there.

When they finally arrived, they spent a good three minutes sitting in silence, trying to collect their thoughts. Eventually though, Person A was the first to get out, then opened the door for his boyfriend so they could finally tell them.

They knocked on the door, and it opened to reveal Person’s B mum standing there smiling. “Hello boys!” She hugged Person B. “Nice to see you again Person A!”

“Nice to see you too.” He said.

“Come in! Come in!” She gestured towards the inside of their house, inviting the two in. “So, what brings you here?”

Person A and Person B sat down relatively closely on a couch together, but his mum seemed to not notice or not care. “Actually, uh, we have something that we need to talk to you about.” This is when his mum finally recognised the anxiousness and tension in the air.

Her face went serious and she calmly responded, “Oh ok. What’s up?”

Person B said nothing while he tried to get the right words out. Person A noticed. “We, uh,” he awkwardly chuckled, “Actually, I think this is something Person B should say.”

Person B snapped back into reality and nodded. “So…” Person B grabbed Person's A hand and intertwined their fingers together. Person A smiled lovingly at Person B as the warmth in their hands got warmer. “Uh…. Person A and I are dating.”

She seemed taken aback, her eyes widening as she looked back and forth between the two. Eventually she processed it and smiled at the two. “Oh ok. That’s fine. I support you guys, as long as you’re happy!”

A huge wave of relief came over the two and the tension left the air. Person B leaned forward, putting his head in his hands as he relaxed. “Oh my god, thank you.”

His mum hugged him and Person A said, “Thank you so much.”

The two separated from the hug. “Oh, no problem! So how long have you been dating?”

“About a month.”

“Are you gonna tell your dad?” She asked. His dad was at work, so they were only able to tell his mum.
“Hopefully. Thanks again for being supportive.”

After a long conversation, the two left and started heading home. “Well that went well.” Person B said as they were sitting in the car. Person A chuckled and kissed Person B before starting to drive away.
