I got back to the cave and walked into the house. Marceline was asleep on the couch. I shook her gently until she woke up.

"Oh hey," she yawned, "What took you so long?"

"Gumball wanted me to stay for tea afterwards."

"What's in the basket?"

"Some red velvet cupcakes." I handed her the basket.

"Good. I'm starving."

She picked a cupcake from the top and drank the red from it.

"These are good," she said as she put the white cupcakes back into the basket, "I'll give them to Finn when I see him tomorrow."

"Getting off that topic," I said awkwardly, "Why did you want to talk?"

"Oh," she put the basket down so she wasn't distracted, "I've seen how out of it you've been lately. I've also seen how awkward you have been around other people. Are you feeling alright? Something on your mind you wanna lay on me?"

"I've just been distracted, I guess."

"By what?"

"By who, actually."

She smirked.

"Oh my glob. I should've known. The way you look at him when he's around, the way you tease him by calling him 'Gummy'. You've got the hots for Gumball!"

"I do not!"

"Yes you do! Admit it Marshy! You're in love with him!"

"I'm not!" I hissed, "I'm not gay! I don't like men!"

She flinched back.

"Okay, Marshall! Calm down!"

"I'm sorry. Oh glob, I'm messed up. Why do I like him? One, I don't like guys! Two, he's so prim and proper and I'm just a messed up dude. Three, he won't like me back. He's too busy tending to his kingdom and being saved by Fionna to notice me."

"Okay, Marsh. I really don't know how to help you. All I can really say is that you shouldn't bottle these things up. It'll only hurt you more."

"Thanks Marcy," I smiled at her, "Do you need to get anything off of your chest?"

"I think Bonnie hates me. She tells me my music is distasteful. Has Gumball ever told you that?"

"No. He usually likes my songs."

"Then Bonnie definitely hates me."

"Why do you care Marcy? You've never cared about people hating you before."

"I can run away from those people. I can't run away from Bonnie. She's the face of Ooo. I mean, it's hard to get away from someone who's everywhere always."

"I understand what you're saying. If Gumball hated me and his face was everywhere, it would be difficult."

"Gumball's never gonna hate you, bro. I actually think he might like you."

I stared at her blankly while I processed what she'd just said.

"What would make you say that?"

"Haven't you ever heard what he says to anyone else who calls him Gummy? He usually goes as far as to kick them out. You know what he does when you call him that? He blushes and barely manages to say 'shut up'. He's into you, man."

I sat there and let it sink in.

"You should tell him. At least then, you'll be less tense."

"If you aren't right, it'll just be awkward."
