You and Rodrick had been best friends since middle school and, like most friends do, you fell in love with each other. Well, actually, while you fell gracefully Rodrick plunged. He was so in love with you it was excruciating for him. He could hardly look at you anymore without feeling the intense urge to just grab you and kiss you until his lips fell off.

One day, while he was sitting at home daydreaming of you, he had had enough and finally got the courage- no, not really courage; it was more like a desperate need to tell you how he felt or he would burst into a million pieces.

He picked up his phone and dialed your number. The five seconds it took for you to pick up were the longest five seconds of his life, but once he heard your voice his heart skipped a beat. "Hey, Heffley." You said.

"Hey, Y/N," he said, smiling into the reciever. "What's up?"

"Not much. Just chillin' at home. You?"

"Same. Hey, uh, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out for a bit. I'll even come pick you up so you don't have to drive."

"Hell, yeah. I'm always down to hang out with you. You should know that already." You laughed.

He chuckled, "Yeah, I guess you haven't turned me down yet. So, I'll pick you up in five?"

"Yeah, see you in a bit."

Once he picked you up you two decided to go to the park so you didn't have to deal with his brother's at his house. During the drive, you could tell that he was pretty nervous, he kept glancing at you out of the corner of his eye and wasn't being his goofy self with you. Though you couldn't understand why, you'd known each other for ages. You decided not to pry just yet.

When you arrived at the park the two of you started to just walk around and shoot the shit. Although, Rodrick wouldn't have a real conversation with you; he just kept asking you simple questions like: "So, uh, how was your day?"

"It was good. How was yours?" You replied.

"Good." He never elaborated, which was highly unusual. He usually started rambling on and on about how stupid gym class was, or about a song he was working on; but now he just stayed quiet. It was worrying you.

At one point during your walk, he lifted his hand to point at a squirrel running along the path, and you noticed his hand visibly shaking. Trying to refrain from reaching out and taking his hand you stopped walking and he quickly followed suit. "Rodrick, are you okay? You've been acting weird since you picked me up." You said, your voice laced with concern.

He nodded, "Yeah, I-I just wanted to, uh, talk to you about something important."

You were on high alert now. What could he have done? Did he get expelled? Is he moving? Did he quit the band? Did he get someone pregnant?

No, you didn't even want to entertain the thought of him being with someone else. It would break you. "What is it?" You asked, warily.

He let out a shaky breath, "W-well, I've been having these...feelings. About, um, you. Uh, us, I guess?"

Your brows knit together in confusion, completely oblivious. "Feelings? Like, good feelings? Bad?"

His eyes widened, "No! No, of course not bad ones. I could never have bad feelings about you... Ugh, I just don't know how to tell you this."

The look of concern on your face was killing him. You reached out and stroked his cheek comfortingly. "Rodrick, you can tell me anything. There's no need to be afraid."

He placed his hand on top of yours, holding it to his cheek; the warmth giving him the confidence boost he needed. "I'm in love with you, Y/N." He blurted out and you gasped lightly. He continued, "I-I'm sorry, but I can't hold it in anymore. You're all I think about 24/7. No matter how hard I try to pry my thoughts away from you, there you are. Stuck there like glue. And it's so annoying, I can't focus on anything. All I can think about is your lips and how badly I want to kiss them, and how badly I want to hold you in my arms. And just... God, I am so excruciatingly in love with you, Y/N."

At this point you had tears flowing down your blushing cheeks, but you smiled at him anyway. He had no idea how happy his words made you. Your hand brushed a lock of his hair out of his face, "Why didn't you say anything sooner?"

He looked down in embarrassment, "I was afraid."

"Rodrick, you never have to be afraid with me. I've always loved you." You didn't wait for him to respond. You just pressed your lips to his in a soft kiss, in which he melted. He had craved this moment for so long, he almost thought he was dreaming. It wasn't until he snaked his tongue into your mouth to deepen the kiss that he knew it was real. He pulled your body closer to his, hugging you to him as tight as he could. And he swore from that moment on, he would never let you go.
