Rodrick x Fem! Reader

Susan Heffley catches Rodrick staring at you affectionately. "Who's that?" She asks him in a knowing tone.

"What?" Rodrick asks, reluctantly ripping his gaze away from you.

"Who's that girl you were staring at?"

Rodrick scoffs, "I wasn't staring at anyone, mom."

Susan crosses her arms over her chest. "Don't lie to me, Rodrick. I just saw you. Who's the girl?"

"She's just a girl." He shrugs. Susan raises her eyebrows and Rodrick sighs, finally giving in to his mother's persistence. "Her name is Y/N. We had to work on a History project together, and she's pretty much the coolest girl I've ever met, and I can't stop thinking about her and I think I'm going crazy."

Susan's expression softened. She'd never seen her son like this before; and frankly, she was surprised to learn of this softer side of him. "Go ask her out," she said.

Rodrick shook his head, "No, she'd never go out with me."

"Have you asked her before?"

"No..."

"Rodrick, you'll never know for sure unless you ask." He didn't respond. Susan sighed, "Ask. Now. Or you're grounded. Again."

"What?"

"You'll thank me later. Now shoo!"

Rodrick gave his mom a weird look before shuffling forward towards you; who stood with your back facing him talking to one of your friends named Layla. When Layla saw him approach she regarded him with a look of distaste. He gulped and let out a shaky breath before reaching out and tapping you on the shoulder, ever so softly. He kind of hoped you wouldn't feel it so he wouldn't have to embarrass himself.

But, of course, you turned around and he was met with your kind e/c eyes. "Oh, hey, Rodrick!" You said with a smile. Rodrick was taken aback. He wasn't expecting you to look so happy to see him. "Nice job out there. You guys rocked it!"

His jaw dropped in disbelief. He couldn't believe you stuck around to watch his set, let alone think they 'rocked it.' "You- you thought we were good?"

"Hell yeah! Well, I mean, Ben's vocals could use a bit of work, but other than that you were amazing! I didn't realize you were such a good drummer."

Rodrick blushed, ignoring the comment about Ben (which he knew was true), "Th-thank you. That means a lot."

"You're welcome!" You said. Then Layla tugged on your arm.

"Come on, let's get out of here." Layla said in a hushed tone, but Rodrick still heard. Layla never liked him, he was too punk rock for her.

"O-okay, one sec." You said, turning back to face Rodrick. "Um, I guess we'd better get going. See you in History?"

Rodrick replied stupidly, "Yeah."

You smiled at him and turned to leave as he looked back at his mom who gave him a glare. He panicked and reached out, grabbing your wrist lightly. "Y/N?" He said softly.

You spun back around to face him, a bit startled. "Yes?"

"Um, sorry, I was, uh, wondering..." he started and paused. You stared at him and gave him a look that said 'continue.' He cast his eyes to the ground in embarrassment. "I was wondering if you maybe wanted to come watch my band practice on Saturday? And maybe hang out for a bit after?"
