Warnings: Blood, swearing, spookiness
It all started with a dare...
As the night dragged on into the early hours of the morning the Löded Diper gang began telling each other ghost stories, trying to scare one another. Rodrick just laughed at all of them; he never really believed in the supernatural. His stories were just something he used to scare his little brother into submission. So when Chris told the story of the Devil Worshipper Woods Rodrick began dying of laughter.
"Pizza ovens? Really man? That's the best you can do?" He laughed.
"It's true!" Exclaimed Ben with a frightened look on his face.
"They say that witches still go into the woods looking for human souls to sacrifice." Chris concluded.
"That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard." Rodrick said. "There's no such thing as witches."
Chris stood up, "Oh yeah? Well, I dare you to go in there and see for yourself."
Rodrick just shrugged, "Whatever, man." He rolled his eyes at Chris and crossed the street to the woods, which was conveniently placed behind their usual hang-out spot."See you never!" Chris yelled after him. Rodrick flipped him off.
He walked around for a good ten minutes, descending deeper and deeper into the forest, kicking up dirt and rocks as he went. He laughed to himself. "Witches. What an idiot."
He was looking around for a spot to sit down and rest for a minute when something flashed across his field of vision. Startled, he looked around, but of course saw nothing. He shook his head and sat down, leaning up against a tree. He had just settled down and closed his eyes when he heard a twig snap not too far away from him.
His heartbeat quickened a bit and he looked around just to be met with darkness. "Hello?" He called out. Another twig snapped and with it came an eerie laughter. He rolled his eyes, thinking Chris and Ben were fucking with him. "Haha, nice try guys. You can come out now."
A figure ran out past him, but it was too small to be Chris or Ben. He stood up quickly. "Wh-who's there?" He asked.
Nobody replied, but he did feel something cold try to wrap around his hand. He yelped and pulled his hand away before taking off running; he could hear the crunching of leaves and the bone chilling laughter following behind him. He tripped on fallen branches quite a few times and cut up his knee, which slowed him down quite a bit.
Nevertheless, the figure was gaining on him and he was just about to accept his demise when he was jerked to the side, behind a tree. A charge of electricity ran through his body and he screamed and flailed about. He wasn't sure what the hell that electric shock was, but he was sure he was going to die tonight. A hand clapped over his mouth.
"Shut up." Said a voice, "They'll hear you."
Rodrick turned his head to look at the person, wide-eyed and frightened. His heart rate slowed down the slightest bit even though he couldn't see the face of his captor due to the hooded cloak they were wearing; but they radiated some sort of peaceful energy that calmed him. The calm was short-lived though as he looked back over his shoulder to where his captor's gaze was held and the dread came flooding back at once.
There were about a dozen figures gathered around a small fire, wearing blood soaked cloaks and plague doctor masks. They were chanting something Rodrick couldn't make out, but he noticed the fire growing larger and some sort of animal levitating above it as they chanted in unison.
