Chapter 17

Kate's POV

In the evening, when Bear was asleep already, Leo and I sat in bed, looking at our Friendship Book. We had collected so many photos over the years. "Look at that one.", Leo said, pointing at a photo that had been taken about two years ago when I was visiting him in LA. In the photo we were both goofing around in Leo's pool. "That was one of my best visits at your's!", I said. "I mean I always have a blast, visiting you. But that one..." He smiled at me. "Oh look! This is one of my favourites!", I said breaking the awkward silence between us, pointing at a photo of Leo and me walking down a path that was surrounded by blooming trees. "The surprise visit for easter!", he said. "How do you always manage to visit me for surprise without telling anyone?", I asked curiously. "Don't know. I just do it. And it always works.", Leo answered. I smiled at him. "Oh yes! It works every single time!", I replied, nodding and laughing all at once.

"Will your family come here for Christmas?", he asked. "Well, I was actually planning on celebrating with you and my kids only. My parents will be in Greece over the holidays. They always wanted to go there and my last year's Christmas present for them was a trip to Greece.", I said. Leo nodded. "I know this is a stupid question, but...", Leo said, "... no. Never mind." "Oh come on!", I replied laughing, "Just ask me. Out with it!" "Okay... Is there anything specific you want for Christmas?" "Actually not. Surprise me!", I said happily. I was already excited about his present. "Is there anything you want?", I asked. "Nope.", Leo said, "Damn it! I should've said 'you' just to see your reaction!" I laughed at that, slightly punching his shoulder. I knew, that he had actually wanted to say he wanted me for christmas. And I knew what reaction he wanted to get out of that. But I kept pretending that I didn't know.

Leo's POV

It was full moon that night. Even though the curtains were closed, there was still moonlight shining into the room. I lay in bed awake, looking at her face. I was trying very hard to see her eyes to see if she was asleep, but I couldn't see them. "Katie, are you awake?", I whispered. "Yeah, I can't sleep.", she whispered back, basing her head on her hand to look at me. "Me neither.", I replied. The following silence took an eternity. "Katie, talk to me! I don't care what, just say something!" Silence. "Katie?" Then she finally started talking. "Every single time you call me 'Katie', I just want to melt away. I just love it when you call me that." She lay on her back, looking at the ceiling and pressed her hand to her forehead. "You're the only person who makes me feel like this: You just make me feel so...", she swallowed loudly and tried hard to stop her voice from trembling, "... so special... like I was the most important person in your life or something." I moved closer to her, taking her hand, intertwining my fingers with hers. Then I wiped her tears away. "You are the most important person in my life. I love you. More than anything else.", I said, "And I can't wait for the day you turn to me and tell me you're ready." She turned her head towards me. "But look at me! I don't look like the girls you usually date! I have nothing in common with any woman you have ever dated! I'm not skinny, I don't have a perfect body, I'm not in my 20s anymore!", she said, crying. "Why would I want to date a model if I can date you? To me you're perfect! You're a real woman, you just look more and more gorgeous with age. And I love all of your imperfections." We kept staring at each other until I pulled her in a hug. "I love you so much." She said, sobbing. "I love you, too, Katie.", I replied.

Kate fell asleep curled up on my chest, holding my hand.
