Chapter 2

Crunch

I woke up because of the noises I'm hearing. I felt a little dizzy but it's bearable. I heard fast footsteps approaching me and I felt a hand on my back,  helping me to sit properly.

"Are you feeling okay?" tanong ni Zayzy

"Yeah, but where am I?" I asked.

"You are in the hospital, Hail," he answered and sat in a chair beside my bed.

Pilit kong inalala kung bakit ako nasa hospital. What happened to me?

"You almost got hit by a car, Hail." he added.

Now, i remembered, I was rescuing a kitten and a fast moving car came and almost? Wait...

"I didn't get hit?" paninigurado ko.

Umiling siya. "You didn't,"

"Why? Oh wait, where is the kitten? Is she okay?" nag-aalalang tanong ko.

"The kitten is fine. Liam's taking care of it, for now," he said, assuring me.

"Liam? Bakit siya?" Kunot-noong takong ko. Naguguluhan na ako.

Bakit na kay Liam yung pusa? At paanong 'di ako nabangga? At bakit nasa ospital ako gayong 'di naman ako naaksidente?

"Maly told me that Liam rescued you. Mabilis ka daw niyang hinatak palayo pero nung nasagip ka na niya ay nakita niyang nawalan ka ng malay. Tumakbo sila Maly para daw tingnan ka, sakto namang kadadating ko lang. Dinala ka namin dito doon lang namin napansin yung dala mong pusa nang ihiga ka na sa stretcher. Liam volunteered na alagaan muna yung pusa while we take care of you," he explained while looking at me with so much gentleness.

Niligtas ako ni Liam. I should thank him.

"Where are they?" I asked referring to Maly, Zarren and Drake.

"Bumili sila ng pagkain para sa'yo. Baka-" naputol ang sinasabi ni Zayzy nang biglang bumukas ang pinto.

Maly and Zarren entered the room with foods and fruits. Zayzy stands up and helped them with the foods. Maly's eyes widen then, she immediately came to me and hugged me tight. While she's hugging me I suddenly heard her sobs. My heart's tightening because of her cry, I can't stand hearing my friends sobs.

"Hey, i'm okay. Don't cry," I softly said.

"A-akala k-ko talaga na-nasagasaan k-ka na," she said between her sobs.

"I'm okay. I'm okay." I assured her. And countinued carressing her back.

She let go after a while, she smiled at me that made me smile, too.

"Let's eat," biglang sabi ni Zayzy.

I smiled but i remembered something.

"Where's Drake?" Tanong ko at tumingin sa pinto baka sakaling bumukas iyon at iluwa si Drake.

"Ah, umuwi na. Tumawag kasi si Tita Mae kaya ayon mabilis umuwi," sagot ni Zarren.

Tita Mae is Drake's mother. I nodded. I saw Zayzy prepared our food in a little table. They bought McDo, apples and oranges. I smiled and tried to get down the bed and there goes Zayzy again, helping me to get down. After that, I sat and so are they. Then, we started eating peacefully.

After we eat, Zarren is the one who cleaned the table. I am biting an apple while sitting on the bed while Maly stays sitting on the chair. Zayzy is right beside me, sitting too.

"Kailan ako pwede umuwi?" Tanong ko sa kanila.

I'm getting bored here.

"Sabi ng doctor one last check sa'yo then, saka ka lang daw nakakapagdischarge." Maly said while her eyes are still on her phone.
