Rena Faunheisser, a young woman with long red hair was fiddling with a spherical device of sorts in a small white room. She had separated this room from the facility deeming it as a place to finish and perfect the project her parents started. Ten years ago, her parents were at the peak of their research in the field of biogenetic science and had an answer to the evolution of humanity itself at the hands of a project they called Rebirth. The project's goal was to achieve human evolution through the process of mixing human DNA with animal DNA, which gave birth to new humanity of sorts.
Interbreeds.
Project Rebirth was an excellent success but still had its mistakes that needed fixing. Unfortunately for the Faunheissers, the success of the project would be very short-lived. The corporation's ambitions towards the project went a little too high. They began a side project for the government known as the Apex Interbreeds. This project took three Interbreeds and attempted to give them superpowers. All testing seemed to have gone correctly, but on the 13th of November... everything had changed. Something went wrong... very quick. In a bestial rage, the Apex Interbreeds managed to break out of their experimental chambers and ravaged the facility. They escaped alongside many other Interbreeds into the Wastelands on the outskirts of the city.
A knock sounded at Rena's door.
"Come in..." Rena mumbled as she was fidgeting with a wire on the device. Another woman with wavy red hair and glasses came into the room. It was her older sister, Scarlet. "What do you want at this hour?" she asked her.
"We have some company at the front gates sis," she told Rena. Rena paused her work and turned her head slightly towards Scarlet. Who could possibly be at the gate of the facility? Ever since the breakout, Both Rena and Scarlet have worked hard to prevent any visitors from interrupting their work."Who?" Rena asked.
"I've hired two detectives to investigate the cause of the breakout," she replied. Rena's emotionless expression turned into anger. Her hand that was free from the device clinched in a violent fury that she struggled to contain. "Listen, Rena," Scarlet got a little closer to her. "I don't think any of this happened by pure coincidence."
"So you are telling me that all of these years... you've been wasting time trying to figure out how those...things... got loose?" Rena growled. "It was already figured out... mother made a mistake in the hormonal structure between the DNAs," she said with a combative tone.
"You are wrong." Scarlet shot back. "It was something else!" she said.
"Then what was it?!" Rena yelled. Her older sister stepped back scared once again from her little sister's rage. Scarlet knew what she found could bring some retribution to whoever caused the breakout... but she knew Rena would just be obsessed with Project Rebirth and just ignore it. Scarlet didn't like arguing with her younger twin, because Rena ended up usually getting her way, but today was different. Nothing was going to stop these detectives this evening. She headed to the door and looked back at Rena."You are going to help these men figure what happened to our parents... or sit here and try to do what is already done," Scarlet said with authority in her tone. With those words, she exited the room.
Rena turned back to her device and sighed. She was back to what she loved the most... her mind with a project, alone.
"Go ahead with your useless game, Scarlet..." Rena mumbled. "Mother and father will finally be able to rest knowing we finished Rebirth..."
