I chuckle as Dimitri guides me forwards while he covers my eyes with his hands. He had been blocking his mind from me for the last two weeks, and any time I ask he shrugs at me. "Can you please tell me where we are going?"
Dimitri laughs and his breath fans against my neck, and I shiver. "We are almost there." We booked a flight to Washington state and that is all I know.
"Ok, now you can open your eyes."
Dimitri removes his hands from eyes and I open them, smiling when my eyes focus on the sight in front of me. It's a small cabin like cottage nestled in the woods. "Where are we?" I ask, whirling around to face Dimitri.
Dimitri smiles and wraps his arms around my waist, "Portland."
We are back to where all of it started for us. I smirk and press a kiss to his lips, giggling when he bows me backwards to deepen the kiss. "It's ours. All ten acers," Dimitri says happily. I smile and drag him towards the cottage and wiggle my hands in front of him for the keys, to which Dimitri dangles them above my head. I pout and bat my eyes at him before he kisses my pouted lip and reaches around me to unlock the door.
Its beautiful on the inside, old hardwood floors with light coloured walls with large open spaces. The living room and kitchen take up the front of the building with the bedroom and bathroom taking up the rear. "It's perfect!" I say with a happy sign, already reminiscing about the last cabin we were in.
"Remember that time in the cabin?" I chirp at him, tugging on his shirt and giving him a loaded look. He nods with a low growl and follows me as I pull him further into the house.
I've said this once, and I will say it again. Moroi are stupid for not being aware of their surroundings. I walk a couple meters behind them and their Guardians as their weave their way though the college district. You would think with the increase of murders in the Moroi society, you would think that the Princess would have more than two Guardians, but again, stupid.
Come around from the side.
I see Dimitri nod from across the park and we follow them as they approach the pond. Lissa and I used to hang out here all the time when we lived here, and we used to picnic under the large oak. I watch them stop there and Lissa puts something down against the tree. I nod to Dimitri as we approach and take the two Guardians out, rendering them unconscious before Lissa and Christian can comprehend what has happened.
Christian pushes Lissa behind him as his hands blaze with flames, and I chuckle and cross my arms across my chest. "Down Sparky, it's the middle of the day. Besides, if we were in the mood for a killing spree we would have killed you already," I say a take a step forward and smirk when they both step backwards. Lissa cowers behind him as Dimitri approaches us with Ivan, and her jade eyes flicker between the three of us.
"Rose," she whispers and I move my eyes to her. It's weird to see her now after everything we've been through – we meaning Dimitri and me – and I can see hesitancy in her eyes.
"Hey Lissa, how have you been?" I ask uncrossing my arms. This park is secluded, lots of tree coverage and this pond is far enough back in the park that not many people come here. It works in our favour today.
"Don't bother Christian, you won't hurt us," Ivan says, and I can hear the gallons of compulsion in his voice, and I chuckle when the flames flicker out in his palms.
"I want you to listen to me, very carefully. I want you to remember this moment for the rest of your life Princess. You showed me your true colours when I left to find Dimitri, and if it weren't for that moment I wouldn't be here. But, killing you would be far to easy. I want you to know that for the rest of your life that I could find you at any time, day or night. I want you to have that in the back of your mind for the rest of your life, to know that the person who loved you more than anything in the world could hunt you down at any time. Got it?" I say stalking closer to them, stopping in front of Christian and I watch him tense up even further. Lissa nods and averts her gaze from me, looking down at the ground as tears cascade down her cheeks.
I smirk and turn around and walk back to Dimitri, stepping into his arms. "Oh, and Christian?" I add as I turn around in Dimitri's arms. Christian's eyes meet mine and I can see the ice running through them. "You can thank Tasha for the fact that you're alive still. I promised her I wouldn't hurt you when I ripped her throat out."
Christian's eyes darken even more, and he takes a step towards us, but by the time his foot steps down the three of us were gone.
I really do love this cottage; it has the most beautiful view of the lake. I sip my glass of white wine and I watch the flames in the fire pit dance against the stonework. I'm ready to live a calm life, I'm ready to settle down and live the way I want to with Dimitri.
Eddie settles down next to me on the couch and pops the cap of his beer, flicking it into the fire pit. "So you didn't kill her," Eddie says, tipping his beer back. I hum and sip my wine and pull the blanket across my lap.
"No. Letting her live and have her looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life is much better than killing her. Fear is a powerful thing Eddie," I explain with a smirk. Eddie looks at me and nods with a shrug and bumps my shoulder.
"So what was her deal with the flowers?"
I grimace and tip my glass back and drain the glass in one gulp. "It's March 21."
"Your birthday," Eddie says quietly. I nod, "It's sort of a win-lose situation. Win because she was out in the open, lose because the human part of me feels guilty for ruining the gesture."
Eddie places his arm along the back of the couch and rests his ankle on his knee, leaning his head back. "How long until we see each other again?" I set my glass down on the table beside me and lean my head back on his arm and frown.
"I don't know. We want to live normal lives, but we will see each other again. Don't forget, Dimitri is handing everything to you."
Saying goodbye to Eddie was harder than I thought, but we parted ways with a hug and a few tears. Ivan went with him, promising to be the go-between for us and that he would check in every few months. Dimitri and I furnished the house and made it our own, his westerns finding a home in the worn bookshelf next the tv, and my new favourite chair in it's place by the fireplace.
Dimitri and I also spent hours pouring over all the text that Abe provided us with the changes we could experience, and one had both of us happier than possible.
I walk into our bedroom and smile to see Dimitri putting the last of his things away.
"So. I was thinking, maybe we could try that thing," I say with a smirk when he turns around, and he takes in my appearance. Stripping down to my bra and thong I stalk closer to him and meet him halfway to the bed.
"Hmm, I think that sounds like an amazing idea," he says huskily, dragging his fangs over my neck and I squeal when he grips my ass with both of his hands.
We didn't waste much time after that, we barely even made it to the bed before he had me wrapped around as he made love to me, sitting on the edge of the bed and as helps me bonce on top of him wantonly. His hands move from my hips to my breasts cupping them in his hands while running his lips over my collarbone, nipping at my skin and sucking roughly.
"Are you close?" I pant, bracing myself on his knees and rolling my hips against him as I can feel my climax approaching. He grunts and pinches my nipples between his fingers, tugging and rolling them between his fingers. I moan loudly and lean into him, dragging my nails down his neck and down his back, digging into his skin as he moves his hands to my hips and slams me into him. Once I feel the first flutter of my orgasm, I sink my fangs into the side of Dimitri's neck and moan when he reaches his orgasm and does the same to me.
As we both come down from both highs, we clutch to each other, breathing heavily as all the love and tenderness flows through our bond.
For the next six months, we do this until one day, the little plastic stick shows that pretty pink plus sign.
