The Perfect Sunset

He picked me up that evening and I didn't hesitate to find the comfort I'd needed all week in his arms. He wrapped me so tight I could barely breathe.

"Damn I missed you."

"I missed you too." My voice cracked and he pulled back to look in my eyes. The concern on his face made it even harder to hold back the tears, but I refused to drop another for my family. Besides, it had taken too long to get my make-up that perfect.

"What's wrong?" He softly tapped his lips to mine and I wished I could bottle up those comforting pecks to use when I needed.

"It's just been a long week."

"We don't have to go out. Take-out and a movie are just as good."

"No I need to get out and have some fun." I pecked his lips again and again. On the third one I pulled back and stared at his lips. I loved kissing and wanted to take it a little deeper, but thought better of it. I decided to wait until the end of the date. A horrible kiss looming over our night disrupting the fun I needed to have was the last thing I wanted to happen.

The restaurant was beautiful. It was near the pier. The warm summer night gave us the perfect opportunity to dine outside and watch the sun set across the bay. He insisted I sit on the same side of the booth as him. I didn't mind at all. It was the side with the best view. We sat in silence as the sun set. I was so enthralled by the sight I hadn't realized we'd been served wine until he passed me a glass. He absentmindedly caressed circles on my bare shoulder as we sipped. It was the perfect ending to a stressful week.

"That was beautiful."

"I'm glad you enjoyed it."

"The way my family is acting, I may need you to bring me here every week."

"That bad, uh?"

I unlocked my phone and let him read Victoria's text messages from that day alone. His face contorted from curiosity to anger in seconds. He finished reading and his fingers furiously tapped across my phone presumably typing a response. He placed my phone on the table and downed the rest of his wine. I picked it up and almost hollered laughing at what he'd written.

This is Derek, the white boy. There are so many things I want to respond to in these text messages, but first and foremost, STOP IT! You are making your cousin miserable. Don't make her choose between the family she loves and the man that makes her happy.

As to your statement about ugly half breed babies. If we get to that point our babies would be just as beautiful as their mother. It would be a shame for you to never meet them.

I could go find a white woman, but I've yet to find one that is as beautiful, intelligent, feisty, and as funny as Janet and can cook her ass off.

And the man you're trying to hook her up with...don't get that fool hurt.

"I'm sorry you've been dealing with that because of me. You ok?"

I nodded against his neck as I placed my lips there. He turned toward me and lifted my calves onto his leg. His warm hand on my exposed thigh was heavenly. Normally I wouldn't allow such displays of affection in public, especially in a restaurant. We seemed to be secluded enough and I was feeling him so strongly I let my guard down a bit. My tongue spun lazy circles on his neck. Turning him on, ridiculously turned me on. He spanked my thigh conjuring all kinds of erotic images, stuff I didn't even think I was in to. Whoever the waiter was I was going to tip him my entire paycheck. He refilled our glasses and brought an appetizer. I never heard a peep. I fed Derek sweet and spicy shrimp with my fingers and enjoyed every second of him licking the sauce off. He returned the favor and so did I. By the time our entrees arrived I was hungrier for him than I was any food. I sat up and focused on my food, tried my best to maintain self-control. The hunger in his eyes let me know I wasn't alone.

We ate our meal and I couldn't help but notice how Derek didn't enjoy his as much as he'd enjoyed the meal I'd prepared for him. I was pretty pleased with myself. I barely touched my food and had no problem pushing it aside when he suggested we leave for the second half of our date.

I never would've imagined a helicopter tour around the city. That's exactly where he took me. Flying high up over the city seeing all its night time lights shining took my breath away. I'd never been in a helicopter and was a little hesitant, but I was glad Derek coaxed me in to getting on. We soared so I high the only thing I really recognized was the bay and the surrounding buildings. It didn't matter. It was still amazing. By the time we landed the silly grin I had the entire ride seemed to be permanently affixed to my face.
