After the bluenette's supposed "adoption", the trio seemed to become estranged from one another. With Emma's broken leg, she was stuck unable to do certain activities, and spent her time sulking under the tree, watching the kids play.
She tried to be happy, to assure the kids she was fine, but no one would deny the small tears falling from her eyes when she spoke.
How her smile wasn't the same as it used to be.
It was forced, strained, and felt more like a frown.
Ray confined himself inside the library, barely eating or sleeping and refusing to talk to anybody.
Anytime anyone would try talking to him he wouldn't respond, just quietly gripping a piece of paper that he'd keep with him at all times like a child with its favorite toy.
Gilda and Don would have to deliver his meals to him but it would be left untouched most of the time.
And Norman often spaced out, lost deep within his thoughts.
He was able to help Don and Gilda with chores, but he would remain quiet and had a lifeless smile plastered on his face.
He'd become forgetful, forgetting what was said to him just a few seconds ago and seemingly escaping to a world of his own where he'd talk to himself.
Gilda would try her best not to cry in pity whenever she overhears one of his mutterings.
"Do you want me to make a new puzzle for you Iza?" She'd overhear him giggle alone one night.
Don and Gilda were incredibly worried for the trio as it was clear to the other kids as well, that the girl's absence greatly affected them.
Emma sat under the tree outside with her head hung low, and a hopeless look on her face as Phil approached her.
He sticks a hand in his pocket before pulling out a piece of folded paper that he handed to Emma.
Emma looks at the boy confused.
"Phil? What is--" she quickly cuts herself off and snatches the paper from him, hiding it.
She had noticed Mama passing by to look at her.
She hung her head low again and continued to make a sad face as Phil hugged her in tears.
Mama stood there for a moment, staring at Emma before leaving.
She waited a while to be sure and opened the letter.
She frowned.
Though it was messy and rushed, she recognized that it was Iza's handwriting.
"Dear Emma,
I'm writing this very quickly, sorry. I asked Phil to give this to you first because I'm guessing that Ray's possibly depressed right now, so it's only you and Norman.
I'm sorry for hiding this from you guys, but by the time you're reading this, the plan to escape is just around the corner.
Phil told me Krone was snooping around Norman's bed last time and left something there that I don't know.
So I need you to tell Norman to figure it out.
Meanwhile, I left many things there for you all. Use it wisely.
