The next morning I woke up feeling absolutely fantastic. I got up, got ready for my day because I wasn't super hungry and went down to the common room to read. I sat down on the perch by the window and was reading until I was rudely interrupted by some 6 year boy. He had brown hair and blue eyes, and was very much taller than I.
"Can I help you," I asked.
"Oh, ya. There's a party, almost like the Yule ball. But not. It happens every year for 6 and 7th year students. I was wondering if I could take you," He mumbled most of it but I could tell he was a proud boy.
"Ya sure, when is it?" I smiled, I enjoy nothing more than a good party. He smiled and told me the dates and when he would respectively pick me up. I nodded and went back to reading before my next class.
Soon the time had come, it was right before Christmas break. I was disappointed I would be spending the holidays alone with my parents, they were much more fun with company. Julie was going to Paris that Christmas so she couldn't come and Charlotte was going to visit her grandparents. Today was the day of the ball though, we had gone dress shopping in hogsmeade the day before. I tried to get them to come but they weren't in the mood. It was understandable, I pushed them to do a lot of things and decided to give them a break. They helped me get ready though because although they weren't wanting to party, they knew I was.
I was wearing an emerald green off the shoulders gown, it was tight till my waist where it puffed out to my feet where you could see matching green heels.
As I walked down the Slytherin Stairs to meet the Slytherin Boy, Jeremy I think was his name, I saw him and his friends gasp as they saw me. It was quite unnecessary if you ask me, I always looked this good. I put on a smile as Jeremy offered his arm and we walked to the ball. It seemed like the rest of his friends were going as bachelors. As I entered the hall my eyes widened just a little bit. I can't say I haven't seen something better, but it was pretty good for a 6th and 7th year ball. Almost everything shined or glittered. It reminded me of a calmer version of the Yule ball. Now that was an experience, I went with Harry of course. This time I was looking up at a rather attractive figure, not that Harry wasn't attractive, his dancing skills just weren't up to par. Jeremy cleaned up quite nice. He had his hair parted in this middle with one strand that was out of place and tickling his face, he was wearing a black freshly pressed suit with a green tie that was slightly loose around his neck.
"Care to dance?" He asked.
"Lead the way," I winked at him as he led me to the dance floor. I wasn't expecting quite a lot from Jeremy because I frankly just didn't know a lot about him and had never heard of him. I liked to think I knew lots of people. He grabbed my waist and I wrapped my arms around his neck as we swayed.
"Tell me about yourself, why is it that this is the first time I've heard of you?" I asked. I was intrigued how such a good looking figure had gone unnoticed for so long.
"I transferred. I tried to compete in the tri-wizard tournament. I could've done better than Krum but everyone knew he was the one who would make it. You. You are actually one of the reasons I transferred," He blushed a little while saying it. I felt unabashedly flattered and a little guilty that I was a deciding factor to his school and he was someone I almost said no to going to the dance with.
"Intriguing. May I ask why you transferred?" I smiled at him and blushed a little bit. He laughed and nodded.
"First off. Clearly you don't remember this but when Durmstrang came to compete I noticed you first and you waved and welcomed me to this school. I tried to make a move on you then but it was very clear you were dating Harry and I didn't want to mess with that power team," Although it looked like there was more he stopped abruptly noticing my smile had disappeared. "I'm sorry I heard about you and Harry,"
"It's fine, I was nothing but loyal and he cheated anyway," I looked at my feet, something I rarely did.
"I would never do that to you Y/N, " He lifted up my chin to look at me. I smiled and pulled myself closer to him so I could rest my head on his shoulder as we danced. At first he seemed a little uncomfortable but he soon relaxed and rested his head on mine as we swayed to the rhythm.
"I'm getting a little tired. I'm gonna head to bed. Thank you for the fantastic night," I said.
"Oh! I'll go up with you I'm feeling a little drowsy anyhow," He replied.
"You know you want to stay here and party. Just if you get drunk don't let me see you, it would ruin my interpretation of this perfect dance," I smiled at him and he smiled back.
"Alright. Sleep well," He said as I left. I barely got out to the hall where I saw the golden trio standing outside, Hermione on the steps reading a book, Ron eating something, and Harry looking off into the distance. They were on the steps up to Slytherin. I really didn't feel like talking with them so I quietly tried to sneak the long way. It was a gorgeous night anyway and I wouldn't mind a little walk.
"Y/N, we've been waiting for you for like an hour," Hermione said as I was almost out of sight. Dang it, so close. So close. I plastered on a smile and gracefully spun, showing off my dress as I walked back towards them.
"Hello Hermione. Why have you been waiting? Is there something you would like to say?" I asked quite politely I do say myself. I really wasn't in the mood for a fight.
"I was just wondering why you broke up with Harry then 6 days later, show up to a ball with Jeremy," She replied. At this Harry looked up at me, sadness in his eyes. He hadn't gotten over me and it was clear. I missed him too. I missed his smile, his goofy comments, the ways he liked to try to spoil me, his manners, the way everyone saw us as the Gryffindors pride and joy.
"He's just a friend Mione," I smiled at her.
"Ha, ya right. I saw you two dancing," Hermione snarled at me.
"If you are accusing me of something just say it. I haven't got all night and I'm tired and would really rather not rip my dress because my feet fall asleep and I topple over," I hated dress rips, the worst thing known to wizard kind in my opinion.
"I- I," Hermione tried to say something but it was clear she didn't know what to say. I nodded and without a word gently lifted up my skirt just a tad to make sure I wouldn't trip on the stairs, and walked up to my room. I wondered what that was all about, Harry didn't control me anymore.
The next day as I walked to dinner I heard voices coming from around the corner. I looked around and leaned against the wall to listen.
"I told you she would be mine again," The voice was Harry's, it was obviously Harry.
"You two aren't dating Potter, she's elegant and too good for this world and if you wanted her enough, you would've treated her as such," I tried to hold back a gasp when I realized not only were they talking about me, the other person was Jeremy. And he was going to try to date me. Ew. I really did have a great time, but I was hoping to reap a friend from the experience, nothing more. I shivered and walked away because frankly, that sounded like a situation that I really had no want to deal with at the moment. They were treating me as if I didn't even have an option, like an object, Harry was at least, Harry wouldn't do that, Malfoy would be more likely to say that than my Harry. I wasn't watching where I was going and fell into unfortunately enough, another person.
"Merlin, my robes. Who do you think you are," Malfoy stood up and shook his robe.
"Y/N, any more questions?" I huffed at him, my Slytherin that I always tried to conceal was coming out and I could feel it. I always felt guilty bringing out my true thoughts to anyone else other than Malfoy, him I felt like I could really unleash my anger and feel quite pleased with myself by the end. I pushed him out of my way and went to bed.
