It only took a day before Amelia was back on the road. For a while, she and Damon just stayed at the boarding house, neither of them wanting to move or let go of one another. They'd ended up laid together on the couch in front of the fire, Damon's arms wrapped tightly around her waist, her face buried in the crook of his neck. Every so often, he'd ask her question. Something about their relationship, or something random about her life, almost trying to ensure it wasn't a dream that her memories were back. Each time, she'd answer to put his mind at ease, but also because she knew she could.

Something that a few days ago, she wouldn't have been able to do.

The decision to leave wasn't one made lightly. Damon told her more about the situation with Rayna Cruz, how she only had eight lives and if she loses the last one, everyone she's ever marked dies along with her. The Armory now had her in their custody, promising they wouldn't allow her to escape, but they'd apparently already let her escape once in the past. A point Stefan made when he heard the news, but they didn't have another plan. And now, all Damon wanted to do was give Amelia her life back. She'd lost so much time after what happened, and he wanted to make the most of every second that he had with her. Now she was human now, time was more uncertain than it ever was before.

The decision was made for them, when Matt decided it was time all vampires needed to leave Mystic Falls for good. To make sure they listened, he threatened expose all the town surveillance footage of the vampire activity that took place over the years. Once they were packed, Damon went to say goodbye to Stefan and Bonnie, while Amelia and Candice spent some time together. Candice encouraged her to go, as she was planning to stay with Stefan and Valerie, help them find a more permanent solution to the Rayna Cruz issue.

"Where are we going?" Amelia asked curiously, trying and failing to remove Damon's hands from over their eyes. By the next morning, they'd arrived in New York, and Damon hadn't told her anything about what they were doing there. "Damon!" She whined.

"You'll see in a second." He chuckled.

"You said that ten minutes ago." She shot back.

"Yeah, well..." Damon made a face, though she couldn't see it. "I thought I was going in the right direction ten minutes ago."

"That's not comforting."

"Yeah, but you trust me anyway, because you love me."

"Sadly." She hummed, a smirk twitching on her lips. The pair didn't get any further, as Damon twisted her around his arms with a slight pout, removing his hands from her eyes as he placed his lips against hers, which she melted into with a giggle. "Kidding." She said softly when she pulled away.

"You better be." He warned with a smile on his lips, pecking her lips once more. "Okay, turn around." He instructed her. "You can see now."

Curious, Amelia turned around to see they were stood in the hallway of an apartment complex, stood in front of a specific door. "It's a door..." She slowly nodded.

"Not just any door." He said, chuckling at the confusion in her voice. Pulling some keys from his pocket, he dangled them in front of her eyes. "The door to our new home." The confusion didn't leave her eyes, but instead of saying anything else, Damon unlocked the door and led her inside.

Amelia's eyes widened in awe at what she saw. It was a loft apartment, with a black spiral staircase leading up to a second floor. It was black and white themed, with dark oak ceilings beams exposed, one of the walls just plain brick which just fit in perfectly. There was a glass door alongside the windows, that led out onto a small balcony, along with another door just off the lounge area.

"Oh my God..." She breathed out.

Damon wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, placing a kiss on the top of her head. "Now, I know it's not an apartment in Seattle." He began gently. "But with everything going on, I thought a little closer to Mystic Falls would be better. It's not above a bookstore." He slowly led her out onto the balcony, pointing to a store across the street. "It is opposite one. You don't own it, but I'm sure we get you a job there if it's still what you want. And I'm not sure about owning a bar just yet, but..." He then turned her slightly, pointing to the building next to the little bookstore. "I did buy that empty building just there, that would be perfect for one in the future. Or anything we want to make it into." Amelia wasn't able to say anything as he took her back inside, pointing to the door just off the lounge area. "A guest room if anyone ever wants to stay, or if we need it for other purposes. And our room and en-suite are upstairs."
