"Jalisa, this is my youngest sister, Jules." I stand up and meet the King half way. Jules holds her hands out to me and I look at the King. "May I?" He nods and I gently take Jules. "Hi Jules, I'm Jalisa." She giggles and touches my mask. "Pwetty!" I smile softly. "Not as pretty as you." She giggles and hugs me. I smile and hug her back. I go and sit back in my seat. I have her on my lap while I watch everyone dance and mingle. I can feel the king watching me as I play and talk with Jules.
After a while of playing with Jules two women walk up to us, the older one I recognize as the previous queen, Amar's mother and the other I'm guessing is his other sister, princess Lucy. I stand up holding Jules and Lucy smiles at me. I smile back and bow my head. "No need, she just usually doesn't let strangers hold her." I giggle, "I think she just liked my mask." She giggles and she holds her hands out for Jules. I hand her to her. Jules looks at me. "Ba-Bye!" I smile and wave back. "Ba-Bye!" I feel and arm wrap around my waist and look up to see Amar. I sorta smile at him and receive one in return. When his mother takes a step closer Amar tenses up.
There have been rumors that when Amar's father, King Richard passed his mother became cold and distant, not taking care of Jules, leaving that responsibility to Amari, Lucy and maids. It's always been known that the queen never liked any female Amar was around, friend, girlfriend, teacher, even some maids. I know everyone has their reasoning, but hers I can't figure out. I give her a soft smile and she gives my a blank face with a nod in return. I look up at Amar when he clears his throat. "Jalisa why don't you go to Lucy and Jules, I'm sure she has questions." I'm tempted to do so, but my wolf tells me not to leave him alone with her. Even if we're in a room full of people, it doesn't feel right. "Don't be silly, we just found each other again, I don't want to be apart from you for even a second." He tenses more and looks down at me, the look in his eyes is of confusion, then of realization as our wolves speak of why I'm staying with him. "We are together now, so we shall go through everything together now, ok?" I give him a reassuring smile and he nods in return. 'What has this woman done to him to make the ALPHA KING scared of her??' I turn to her and she has anger in her eyes, she knows what I'm doing and doesn't like it. I smirk and see Lucy in the corner of my eye. She's smiling, glad that someone is standing up to her mother.
"So, you're the woman that broke my son's heart two years ago?" I take a deep breath. "I wasn't ready then, I just escaped a horrible pack and reunited with my father I-" she interrupts me. "Yes, yes, I've heard all about you from the guests, you were a weak Omega that took the beatings cause you had nothing better to do." Amar growls but I look up at him and shake my head.
"It's alright." I clear my throat and look back at his mother. "The only reason I didn't leave is that the abuse would have been put onto my mother, as her child I did my job and protected her, as a mother I know you would have done and expected the same." I say with a strong but even voice, angering her more. She storms off and when she leaves the room I sit in my chair.
Amar smiles at me. "Thank you Jalisa, ever since I can remember she has been cruel, after my father died and Jules was born, it got worse. She hasn't physically harmed anyone, she just uses her words as her weapons, and well, it feels the same." I smiles softly and squeeze his hand in understanding and reassurance. "Well, I'm here now, and I'll help with that the best I can." He nods and slowly after the evening draws to a close. Guests slowly go back home and my family is shown to their rooms. Lizzy is sleeping in mine cause I'm definitely mother henning her and also after today I don't know what will happen. I walk to Amar as he speaks with another Alpha. I patiently wait while they speak, I don't really pay attention. I look out the windows to the garden and see movement. I look and see that Amar is still busy talking and walk to the balcony doors.
"Milady, I can unlock that for you if you like." I turn and see a tongue maid and smile with a nod. "Yes please, the day has been fast and sometimes it's as though I forget to breathe." I take off my mask as she unlocks the door. I hand her my mask. "If you could be so kind, may you drop this off in my room, along with my friend, she looks tired, she's with the princesses, tell her I'll be up in a bit." She nods and curtsies before walking away. I walk out the glass doors, only using one, and walk down the steps into the garden. Just as I was about to enter the maze I hear Amar call my name.
"Jalisa, come inside, you'll freeze." I take a deep breath. 'Goddess, he sounds like Laila and my mom.' I walk back up the steps and inside. "What were you doing out there hun?" I can tell that he isn't the slightest bit mad, more worried than anything. "Don't worry Amar, the night sky tonight was beautiful, and I thought I could grab some fresh air, shall we go upstairs, I'm quite ready for bed after all this socialization." He chuckles and nods.
We start to walk to our room. "You know, I can have someone get a guest room ready for Lizzy." He says causing me to shake my head. "I mean no offense, but since her sister isn't here she is in my care, and being in this new place, I need to wake up to a familiar face." I wince as I say that. He raises a brow. "What, does something hurt?" I quickly shake my head no. "Not in the slightest, it's just, I hate when I accidentally rhyme, it's a bit embarrassing." He chuckles. "Oh, well I think it's adorable." He says causing me to blush. He leads me to my door and I can already hear Lizzy on the phone inside, talking to Laila no doubt.
"Thank you, Amar. For understanding and working with me. I know I've made this hard for you, I hope I'll be able to make this up to you soon." He smiles softly and softly kisses my knuckles like how a noble greets a princess. "Not in the slightest, I will gladly wait as long as you need me to." He kisses my knuckles again and I can feel the walls of fear and mistrust slowly start to crack. "Goodnight Jalisa, my Beta's mate will be here at 9 o'clock sharp, to give you your schedule and everything, it mostly has to do with tours and rules.-" He playfully roles his memorizing blue eyes. "-Please be up and ready for her by then." I smile and nod. "Of course Amar. Goodnight, and sweet dreams." "Sweet dreams Jalisa." Then he enters his room, closing the door behind him.
