Dallon's POV
• ☼ • ☼ • ☼ • ☼ •

I watched Brendon splash around in the water for a little bit, but I was starting to get kinda stressed. It was Saturday, and it was in the morning/afternoon, so there would probably be a lot of people on the beach.

Those thoughts were scattered from my brain when I was suddenly splashed in the face with water.

I coughed, wiping the water away from my eyes. Brendon lay in front of me, his hands over his mouth, trying to hide the obvious giggles from me.

"Did you just splash me?" I asked, a smile creeping around the corners of my mouth.

He nodded, giggling more. He flicked his tail again, more water splashing me in the face. I laughed, kicking water at him.

We both kept splashing each other for a while, shouting and laughing, not caring at all. I stood up to get better aim when I splashed him.

"H-hey! That's c-cheating!" He exclaimed, giggling. "I-I don't have legs!"

"You have a tail!" I exclaimed.

He grinned, swimming under the water. I looked out, trying to see where he had gone. I saw a shimmer of red in the shallow tide, which made me smile.

At the same time, I was splashed full force with water, getting salt water in my eyes, mouth, nose, and ears. "BREN!" I shouted, laughing.

He emerged out from under the water, grinning at me. "I w-win!"

I was gonna laugh, but I heard someone yelling. We both looked around, seeing a group of teenagers running towards us. Brendon was shaking, and I was just as scared as he was.

"Swim." I said gently, trying to keep him safe.

He shook his head, grabbing my hand. "C-come w-with me."

I wanted to tell him that I couldn't do that, but the teenagers were getting too close to us, so I didn't really have a choice. "Okay." I said.

Brendon yanked me underwater, swimming quickly. He held onto me tightly so I wouldn't fall behind, dodging things that I could barely see, but I knew they were there. I could see his red scales shining in the water, as we got farther in the ocean.

I was just beginning to get used to it, when Brendon suddenly dove farther down. My ears popped, and my head began to hurt, but I didn't know if he knew what it would mean if I tried to tap out.

I looked at the merman in front of me, I think he was trying to talk to me, but I couldn't hear him. He grabbed my shoulders, trying to keep me up from sinking down.

I pointed up, trying to form the words 'I need air'. Somehow he understood, holding onto my waist, swimming upwards so I could breathe.

I didn't know how far we were from the shore, and I didn't want Brendon to be seen, I wanted him to be safe, even if that meant I was gonna get hurt.

I tugged on his hair, shaking my head. He stared at me, continuing to swim up. I pushed him away from me, which made me sink down.

I heard something high pitched, which I guessed was a scream. I saw Brendon's blurry face in front of mine, I couldn't really see his eyes, but I knew something was going on in his head that was bothering him.

There was suddenly a warm sensation on my lips, as I felt oxygen fill my lungs. Brendon held on to me tightly, and I realized that we were kissing. I put my hand behind his head, pulling him closer. My heart was beating so loud, Brendon must've been able to hear it, my cheeks burned, and the feeling of Brendon's tail occasionally hitting my legs made me shiver.

He had saved me, again. He had said that he wasn't important, but he had rescued me, from drowning twice, and putting my broken heart back together.

I smiled to myself, I guess love at first sight was a thing.
