(Briars POV)
“What?” I chuckled.
More blood pooled up in Mila’s cheeks and even her ears now too. “Nothing.” She whispered.
“You’ve never kissed somebody?” I asked with a cheeky smile. It was shocking, someone like her, never having kissed someone before. What was more shocking was that kissing was running through her cute little head. Did she want me to kiss her?
“Let’s focus on the matter at hand.” She said quickly. “You’re a WITCH?! Like Harry Potter type stuff?! So Hogsmeade, Platform 9 ¾ and the flying car could all be real too? OH MY GOD!”
“N-” I started before she interrupted.
“HOGWARTS!” She shrieked. “I want a 14 inch Holly, Veela Hair wand!”
“What?” I asked in confusion. Where is this stuff coming from? Her head seems to be filled with endless odd phrases and thoughts.
Mila shuffled her feet and looked up at me with her violet colored eyes. I could see the candle flame reflected in her iris.
“Harry Potter?” She asked as an explanation.
“He is a wizard. I am a witch. There is a difference.” I told her. I didn’t want to scare her away. I didn’t want to scare her at all. I needed her to understand. It was important.
“What is the difference?” She asked as she pulled her small hands out of mine.
Letting out a sigh, I set the candle down on her desk and motioned for her to sit on the bed. She willingly sat down and hugged her knees. When she looked comfortable, I began the tale. Hopefully, she wouldn’t run away from me. Hopefully, I could tell her what I am and what that means.
“Briar?” She asked, pulling me from my thoughts.
“Yes?” I asked her.
“How is it possible?” She asked me.
I cleared my throat and hoped the words found me. “Mila, I don’t understand how I possess these gifts. How I am a pure blood. All I know is that I am. I was born this way, like you were born with beautiful eyes. I guess you could say it is a part of me. Now, I am not a fan of history therefore, I naturally don’t know my own.” I told her.
Mila nodded and looked at the candles. “So you have actual powers.” She stated. “You can do things, things that are supposed to be impossible.” She said hesitantly like she was still trying to wrap her head around it.
I decided to not answer her, instead, I showed her.
I reached within me and I felt the familiar pull. It was like drinking too much water and feeling it slosh around in your stomach… except, better. I felt in control and powerful. I reached for it and felt it wash through my body. I easily commanded it to do as I wished, just like I’ve done thousands of times. Only seconds had passed and now I was ready to show Mila my gift again.
I told my magic what I wanted and now I could feel the element submit to me.
“Tine” I said. It was the old language. Fire. I gave the direct word a command and it responded to me.
The flames went out, leaving Mila and I in darkness. It was only around noon however, the rainy weather left Mila’s room dark and almost eerie. She gasped and I quickly did more powerful magic. It was still simple magic but it required more focus rather than the magic I did before.
I felt the pull in my gut and uttered the words. “éadrom gorm” Suddenly, the room was filled with a blue light from a glowing blue orb that was floating in the center of her room. It lit the room enough for Mila to see. She was quiet but her body language was screaming that she was awe-struck. “Beautiful.” She muttered as she got up slowly from her bed.
