"come on, come on." Farah mumbled under her breath as she watched the line on the screen progress further. she was just seconds away from uploading the youtube video she had been trying to post for hours, but it could never quite seem to get there.
once the loading bar reached the end of the corresponding, darker grey bar, Farah smiled triumphantly and threw her fists in the air. "yes! thank fucking god. now i can finally go to bed-"
then, the screen refreshed. the once blank screen was now plastered with a message that screamed importance, one that Farah had seen many times throughout the night.
'UPLOAD CANNOT BE COMPLETED! PLEASE TRY AGAIN!'
the girl stared at the words. the gnawing feeling of rage began to build deep within her. she had been trying to upload for hours and this was her final straw.
she clenched her jaw before huffing and slamming her laptop shut. she let out an aggravated sigh before hitting her hand against her desk, but doing it rather softly so that she didn't wake anyone up.
"stupid fucking piece of shit!" she grumbled as she smacked, each syllable lining up with the smacking of her hand.
she was so caught up in her technological problems that she didn't even notice Drew standing in the doorway watching the scene unfold.
"hey bub, what's wrong? technology got ya bummed out?" Drew questioned lazily as he threw himself down onto the girls bed. she scoffed quietly and ran her hands down her face.
"yeah, something like that." she muttered through her hands.
"well...whatcha workin' on? maybe i could be of some assistance." Drew offered with raised eyebrows. he looked over at her to see that she was still sat in the same position as she was a few moments prior. she looked up slightly before letting out a light chuckle.
"unless you can fix the uploading system for youtube, i don't think there's anything you could do for me. i appreciate it though." Farah turned her chair around so that she was now facing Drew.
the boy plastered a sly grin on his face before saying, "for a pretty girl like you? shit, i'd hack into the main frames, no problem." he giggled.
Farah's first instinct was to smile and blush at his words, but she quickly remembered what circumstances the two were in and cleared her throat.
her smile was now hardened into a stern look, one that didn't seem convincing, but she honestly didn't really want it to be. "Drew..."
"right" he cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. "sorry."
Farah shook her head rather quickly. "no no, it's okay i just—" she cut herself off and rubbed her eyes.
"no, i get it." Drew said dismissively. Farah could tell that he no longer wished to continue with the conversation at hand so she let it go. they sat in silence for a few moments before Drew forced himself off of her bed. he slowly made his way over to her and leaned against her desk with his hands.
"hello ma'am! so, what seems to be the issue?" Drew said in a silly voice, causing Farah to giggle. she reluctantly reached out for her laptop and moved it closer to Drew so that he could see what she was seeing.
"it won't let me upload." she stated while looking up at him. Drew pulled his bottom lip in between his teeth as he studied the screen carefully. after closer inspection, he gently pushed the laptop back and faced the girl.
"try uploading it on your PC." he said as though it were the most simplest thing in the world. Farah's eyes widened slightly, and she looked up at Drew with a whiny look.
"i don't have one!"
"how have you been uploading then?!" Drew asked before turning his body around so that he could half-sit half-stand at her desk.
"i haven't." Farah muttered shamefully. Drew gave her a look that was hard to read before sighing.
"Farah..." he started like a disappointed father would. the girl tilted her head back and let out a quiet whine.
"i know! i know." she replied defensively before crossing her arms over her chest. Drew sighed before cracking a smile. he lifted his hand off of the desk and gently patted Farah on the back.
"we'll get you a new PC and we'll even get you the protective case to go with it, okay?" he said soothingly before rubbing her shoulder blades.
Farah put her head in her hands and sighed exasperatedly.
"i can do my own shit." she grumbled into her palms. Drew frowned slightly but continued to stare at her side profile.
"sorry." he apologized.
Farah shook her head dismissively. "no no, i'm sorry. i'm just really stressed right now, i didn't mean to get mad at you."
Farah lifted her head from her hands and rubbed her eyes one last time before standing from her chair abruptly.
she robotically turned to face the boy, her face lacking any sort of expression as she stared him down. Drew watched her carefully, his eyebrows knitted in confusion.
"you okay bud? you're looking at me funny." Drew joked as he waved his hand in front of Farah's unchanging face. she blinked as his hand passed her face, then she tilted her chin up slightly.
"wanna go for a drive?"
"i think you should get some rest."
Farah pressed her lips into a line and put her hands on her hips. "i think you're wrong. c'mon, Drewey. please?"
the boy thought about it for a moment, his eyes darting to the clock on Farah's desk. he ran his tongue along his teeth in deep thought.
"well, i don't have to work tomorrow..."
Farah lifted her eyebrows excitedly. "yes! so that means you'll go?!"
"yes, but only because you're cool." Drew replied jokingly, causing Farah to giggle.
"i knew that you thought i was cool." the girl responded with a smirk growing on her face. Drew rolled his eyes before slinging his arm around the girl's shoulders and pulling her into his side.
"don't get your hopes up, it's only sometimes."
