(Present day)

When you hear about New Years, you're probably thinking "Oh yay! Holiday! No school! Blah blah blah". Not me. During my entire childhood, holidays to me depended on one thing. Whether that's meant I'd have to close the restaurant or I had to work extra hours. And unfortunately for me, New Years was the latter. So you can expect that I expected this day to be boring as hell. The last thing I expected was something to actually happen, which of course this year it did, you know, just because.

I suppose I should start from the beginning though, where the day started out as normal. The festival was supposed to start at 12PM, where we'd all meet up at the center of the town to do the countdown as usual at midnight. After everything died down, all the brawlers would come to Bull's diner and Barley's bar for drinking contests and toasts, which means I'd have to take care of the bar with Bull, which, you guessed it, sucked butt.

Everyone had their own plans of what to do, and I had mine of going to 8-bit's arcade with a friend while I still could. As it turns out, getting the friend was the hard part. It was around 2pm when I figured it'd be time to leave. I got out of my bed and dialled Bull's phone number.

"Hey, Bull!" I started off cheerfully. Whenever I was talking to Bull, a big thing I had to learn was mood. Bad mood, he'd yell at me and we get into an argument. Good mood, he'd... say "no" less.

"So I was wondering if I could head off to the Arcade-".

"Bibi! Oh um- *cough* Why are you calling?" He interrupted, for some reason he sounded disgruntled, which wasn't normal for him.

"Wh- why wouldn't I call? What's wrong?" My smile wavered.

"Uhh... never mind! I just need you to stay at the bar for now, yeah, at the bar."

My smile completely faded now. "You want me to stay... at the bar?"

"Yeah, yeah, that sound good! Um... just stay till I call you, sound good sweetheart?".

Okay something was definitely going on. I've never heard him say good morning to me, much less "sweetheart". I caught on and quickly shifted accordingly.

"Bull what are you hiding?" I snarled.

"... *hangs up*".

"..."

Long story short, he hung up, and I was pissed. I obviously wasn't gonna stay at the bar, I made that mistake last year and I'm not repeating it. I tried calling him again but he didn't pick up. I tried others, thinking I could just sneak out of the bar without him knowing, but turns out just getting the friend was the hard part. After he hung up, I struck a call with Jessie, a little cousin/half-sister I've met a few times. It wouldn't be my first choice she's so big of a nerd she somehow created a robot that became a bigger nerd but beggars can't be choosers-

*hangs up*

Okay, then! Not her! I tried Colt next, punching in the numbers quickly. I know that he was busy last festival but I'm pretty sure he had time to spare with Shelly. What's the difference with m-

*hangs up once again*

FINE! What about-

*hangs up*

Are you kidd-

*hangs up*

YOU CAN'T BE GODDAMN SERIOUS-

*depressing sounds of voicemail*.

... *smacks lips*. So... After 20 minutes of this act I decided to call Crow again. He's part of our gang and a decent friend. I- I didn't call him first since he already told me he had something to do, but I was desperate.
