It was my second year in high school when what I thought would always be the same had drastically changed. Now into my last year, I'm still left with a broken family, a secret in my friendship group, a masquerade ball with messy emotions, and me str...
Hello chapter 4! Here's to the beginning of finding the mystery girl in red! This is the locket that fell! It's a music box locket!!
Rowan's P.O.V.
School was buzzing the following morning as Carter had made it his life's mission to find the mysterious girl in red. He had posters of our picture plastered on everyone's lockers. On the school hallways and even on the stupid classroom doors. Why the principal hasn't said anything is beyond me but I was getting sick of listening to everyone. I mean why his parents didn't question his sanity...
I wanted to ram my head into my locker but instead I opted for lightly letting my head fall into my locker repeatedly. Suddenly my head made contact with a hand and I froze my movements to look up at who the culprit could be. My mind went blank as I stood rigidly straight at the sight of Carter before me.
"Ro, are you done with your weird 'leave me alone we don't belong in the same world' thinking? I miss spending the small amount of time you allow me to spend with you." He placed a fake pout on his lips which made my gaze wander.
I forced myself to roll my eyes to keep from staring at his nice lips. Does it ever get chapped? Mine are chapped... Maybe I should put some chapstick on... and exfoliate...
"Honestly, I hate the attention you bring but I also don't know why you need my permission. I gave you my opinions and you did what you pleased."
I walked away from him but of course he followed.
"If I knew it was going to be this easy I wouldn't have waited all this time. Here I thought if I left you alone you'd miss me but it was vice versa. You're so heartless. First you break my heart and then now my mystery cinderella is breaking my heart. Why is it the people I want to be surrounded by don't want me as much as the people I could care less about?"
A fluttering in my stomach caused me to be tight lipped. I barely know this guy. I need to get myself together. All we've done is eat lunch as he talked about his life all the time. I mean sure it was nice to hear his voice all the time and see his good looks and be near him but I could feel that way about any one else of the opposite sex. No one gives me attention so of course I'm feeling clingy to the one guy who does that... doesn't include Nathan though.
Carter is just a friend... Carter is just a friend... I kept chanting in my head.
Carter blabbered on and on catching me up from when we last talked throughout the day. It was only during lunch when it became too much for me. He moved me to the side and suddenly stood and stepped on the table top. Everyone who wasn't staring before were definitely staring now and the cafeteria silenced. I watched horrified as he let my locket chain dangle with the locket in his palm before he started talking.
"To the girl in red, I'm sure this necklace has some sort of meaning. The reason I'm not showing what the necklace looks like is because anyone can claim this as theirs. You must describe what the necklace looks like and everything else about it. Please don't make this harder than it needs to be. All I want is to talk."
As he sat back down chatters around school started back up and I couldn't be any happier when the bell finally rang. I didn't say bye to anyone and quickly left to my job. Thankfully tonight was busy and kept my mind occupied from trying to figure out how to get my locket back. As the evening came to a close, I tiredly drove back home with my mind starting to run wild. As I pulled up to my house, I noticed neither of my parents weren't home which is weird because they usually get home before me. I went up to my room and frowned as my door was slightly opened. I pushed the door open to find Rachel with my jewlery box in hand.
"You're her. You're Carter's cinderella..."
She stared at me in disbelief. I ignored her comment and ripped my jewlery box out of her hands and placed it back where I had it before.
"You're Carter's cinderella!" Rachel said again louder.
"I don't know what you're talking about Rach, get out of my room."
"Your locket was in his hands at lunch. You lost it?""
"No it wasn't mine. I'm getting my locket cleaned thank you very much. Stop making up scenarios in your head."
She scoffed at me and walked out slamming my door shut hard. I frowned as I opened my jewley box feeling empty with my necklace not in it's place. I decided to take a bath and try to relax before I finally dozed off.

It's been two weeks and Carter was still searching. Girls went up to him everyday and even some weird teachers! Carter complained regularly everyday and I was the receiving end of that.
"I'm having a party this weekend, can you guys come?" Carter asked looking from me to Naethan and Lucie.
"YES WE ARE IN!" Lucie screamed excitedly jumping up and down.
I shrugged my shoulders to act nonchalant but this was it! I was definitely going to this party. I'm one thousand percent sure he's going to lock the locket up and I will find it and get it back.
It was the Friday of the party during lunchtime when Rachel walked up to Carter with a determined look on her face. I immediately stiffened as I watched her gain Carter's attention. She's gonna tell him it's me. I need to do something.
"Carter, I-"
"Rachel!" I yelled cutting her off.
She glared at me but stopped talking as we gained everyone's attention now. Oh no. She can't tell him in front of everyone!
"I forgot to tell you something. It's about mom and dad, let's go." I said dragging her by her arm.
She followed behind and as soon as we were out of shot she didn't even give me a chance to talk.
"Ro, you owe me this. I'm going to tell Carter I'm his princess and get back at Ashely. Also, Ashely told me you know about them. I know she's not lying. How could you not tell me? Carter will be mine and I will crush Ashely."
My heart sunk in realization that what I had thought would be bad, actually didn't sound as bad as what she actually had planned.
"Ro, I was going to tell you that night but you had already found out. Would you have even believed me?"
"Of course I would've. You owe me this. If you had just told me as soon as you found out, I wouldn't have had my heart broken in that way. You also clearly don't like him since all this time you've been by his side and haven't said anything. I gave you two weeks to tell him. Clearly you just want your necklace back, I can get it back for you. Who knows, maybe we may even fall in love and I'd get back at Ashely!"
I didn't reply as I saw how determined she looked. I forced a smile and walked away to my car. Since it was already lunch, I decided to just head out earlier and start my shift earlier. I turned my phone off and headed out feeling like my heart was being clenched.
