blank faces
when did i get
use to this?
the sight of another
blank face beside me in bed?
the feeling of an
unfamiliar warmth?
the sound of the
same words?
it was always a
"call me later,".
which they would only
get a curt nod as a response.
it was always a warm
shower afterwards
to get back some of the warmth
that had left.
it was always me spending
minutes in the mirror
staring at myself
wondering why
i wasn't good enough.
why no one else felt
the pain i felt as the
day dragged on.
why the only person
i had cared about turned
into a blank face in my mass
collection of us.
a caring smile
that was one in a million.
hands that grabbed mine,
while a soothing voice
told me everything was
going to be fine.
but of course,
that's when i splash
cold water in my face
to remind me that
nothing's fine.
