Chapter 33: Talks

Despite it being their second night at the hotel, everyone was still quite nervous for the next match they were having. They were going against a really good team that was chosen as one of the teams most likely to win the tournament.

Coach Ukai played a few of their games for the team to see and analyze, then he gave them a small speech to give them more confidence. Afterwards, they were able to relax and ease their nerves.

Tanaka went out to get a bit of fresh air. Kiyoko saw him going out and followed close behind so she could talk to him outside. However, her plans were foiled when Tanaka came across Kanoka outside the hotel. She stayed hidden but close enough to hear them talk.

"We seem to see each other a lot, huh?" Kanoka smiled at Tanaka.

"Yea it seems like it," Tanaka laughed nervously. Earlier Kinoshita had told him that Kanoka was into him but Tanaka didn't believe it. However, the thought made him more anxious to be around her.

"You know Ryu, there's something I always wanted to tell you in elementary school but never had the guts to say it," Kanoka turned slightly pink as she spoke.

Oh crap, was Kinoshita right? Is she about to confess to me?! Tanaka started to panic.

Kiyoko female instincts told her Kanoka was about to confess. So, she decided not to impose on their conversation any longer.

It's wrong to hear a private confession like this...Kiyoko turned to leave. Part of her was also too scared to hear Tanaka's answer to her confession. She went back to her room.

"Ryu, you were always there for me in elementary school. When I would get bullied about my height, you always came to my defense and made me feel happy. Then, you introduced me to volleyball which immediately became my favorite sport..." Kanoka continued.

Crap crap crap! It's coming!

"Because of all that I really wanted to tell you this....Tanaka Iー"

"Wait wait wait! I'm sorry but there's already someone I like and she's the only one for me!" Tanaka interrupted her.

Just then a guy came over calling Kanoka's name. He handed her a bouquet of flowers and a good luck charm. Tanaka analyzed the situation.

Oh my god! She has a boyfriend! And here I am thinking she was about to confess to me! I must've sounded so stupid to her! Tanaka screamed at himself internally.

"Listen, Kanoka, sorry about what I just said. I think I misunderstood something," Tanaka bowed and apologized. Kanoka made a sad expression but quickly put on a smile for Tanaka to see.

"Ryu, I just wanted to thank you for everything you did for me when we were kids," she smiled.

Of course that's what she wanted to do! Tanaka laughed nervously.

"It was nothing! That's what friends do for each other! Anyway, I'll leave you two alone now," Tanaka waved and then left to go back inside the hotel.

Kanoka looked down. I was rejected before I even got a chance to confess.

"Who was that?" her cousin asked.

"He was my first love," she smiled sadly.

Kiyoko came back to her room with a sad expression. Yachi immediately noticed.

"Hey Kiyoko, is something wrong?" Yachi asked.

Kiyoko looked at her and contemplated telling her about Tanaka. Now that there was another girl in Tanaka's life, she didn't think it was worth revealing to anyone that she ever had feelings for him.
