Chapter 36: Hanging Out (Part 2)

After everyone exited the laser tag room, they went back to the game arcade area. 

“We should go to that festival you were talking about,” Yukio said, not wanting to lose another game.

“No! Let’s stay here and play some games,” Yumeko objected. 

“I wouldn’t mind leaving to the festival. There’s a ferris wheel there I would like to ride,” he said smiling at Kiyoko. 

“Hitoka, Hinata, what do you think?” Yukio asked. 

“I like festivals,” Yachi mentioned. 

“I don’t mind going to the festival,” Hinata shrugged.

“Ugh fine! Let’s go to the festival then,” Yumeko gave in.

“Alright, let’s go!” Yukio said, exiting the arcade. When the others came out, Yukio was outside scratching his head. 

“Which way is the festival?” he asked looking around. 

“I’ll lead the way,” Tanaka said. He went up ahead holding Kiyoko’s hand. 

Yachi noticed they were holding hands and smiled. Guess the confession went well. 

“Hey,” Yukio said, walking next to her. 

“Oh, hey,” Yachi smiled.

“I’m guessing this was the reason you invited that guy,” Yukio said pointing at Tanaka and Kiyoko. 

Yachi gave a nervous laugh. “I don’t know what you mean,” she lied. 

“Ok, I’ll pretend you really don’t know,” Yukio said. 

“Uh, thanks for helping me out when we played laser tag even though I was on the opposite team,” Yachi said, changing the subject. 

“It was nothing, you needed the help anyway,” he shrugged. 

“Oh...I did, didn’t I,” Yachi looked down. 

“Hey, don’t look so down. It was your first time playing laser tag so it’s a given you needed help,” Yukio patted her head. “Plus, I’m not one to talk since my team lost.” 

“But my team only won because Yumeko got us a lot of points,” Yachi mentioned.

“Yea she’s a real gamer. She’s good at games and sports,” Yukio said.

“I see,” Yachi said. She took a peek back at Hinata and Yumeko who looked deep in conversation. Hinata happened to look at her too, making Yachi turn back quickly.

“Here we are everyone!” Tanaka said as they approached the entrance to the festival. 

“This looks more like a carnival,” Yukio said. 

“Let’s go to the ferris wheel!” Tanaka said, dragging Kiyoko with him. The rest of them followed behind. 

The line to the ferris wheel was fairly short so they arrived at the front of the line quickly. 

“Two people per passenger car,” the guy managing the ride said. 

Tanaka and Kiyoko boarded the first one together. Then Yukio and Yachi boarded the next one. Yachi and Hinata looked at each other as her pod moved up for him to board the one behind. They were both disappointed they didn’t ride the ferris wheel together. 

Our first time on a ferris wheel and we aren’t riding it together, Hinata looked bummed as he got on with Yumeko.

Yachi sighed and looked up. She could see Kiyoko leaning her head on Tanaka’s shoulder. Well, at least they look happy, she smiled.
