Review:
The book has been placed under the genre of Emotional and intense. The book cover is very creative. All the characters are rich and developed with respective back-story. The general tone of the story is situational and never aloof. There is a title to each update which captures the essence of the actual update. The story has intelligently progressed and is close to real-life events.
The setting is portrayed through the eyes of the characters and not in a flat narrative.Apart from secondary characters, even the tertiary characters like Nikhil and Ms. Nandini have been used effectively to weave into the narrative and propel the story forward.Refer to Chapters 2 and 10.The narrative across all chapters 'showed' instead of 'telling'. An example could be taken from the first paragraph of Chapter 22 describing Shivaay's routine at home through his own thoughts. A reader can feel the loneliness rather than getting to read that he was lonely. The plus point of this book is that the author lets you experience the characters' emotions instead of generally narrating.
An example of a plot/scenario that was not predictable and left the reader in me surprised would be in Chapter 19.Om's reaction on hearing Shivaay being friendly with Anika than with him; the reason he gave was surprising. The explanation of insecurity about the people you love was convincing without usual clichés. The setting of a scene is vividly described. The properties in the room do reflect the mood of the scene. For example, in Chapter 18, the first paragraph describes how Shivaay takes note of the settings of Anika's living room. This is also an example of retaining essence of characters through the book.
The detailing of landscape also reflects the mood the characters are in.In chapter 22, Shivaay moves away from the crowd and sits at the edge of wall. The crumbling maze of broken walls as described by the author aligns with the male protagonist's broken and shattered soul. The properties of the scene are used to maximum to reflect the characters' mood which is a very good method of presenting any book.
The protagonists have a clear character arc that shows growth, resolution, transformation or inner journey over the course of story. The book perfectly fits the emotional and intense story genre where relationship between characters was allowed to slow burn and grows organically. There is maturity evident in writing that has raised an emotional pay-off.
Wishing the author all the very best. I shall look forward to read future updates.
