A/N: I'm not too sure if I mentioned this already, but just in case I wanna say that I don't own any of the Marvel characters, they obviously belong to Marvel, and the whole creative process of this story was by me. Other than that, please enjoy the chapter.

Whenever Tony was in his lab, there was never a dull moment. Whether it was working on upgrades for the teams suits, fixing up the Iron Man suit after it was horribly damaged thanks to some asshole super villain, or scolding Dum-E for messing with, and touching, which lead to breaking, something he wasn't supposed to. Needless to say Tony's fast thinking brain, fitted for the most complex of situations, was always preoccupied, but also, always on the move.
However, the one thing he didn't prepare for, or suspect himself to care for, was the sleeping super soldier on the couch. Hearing JARVIS tell him that Steve was experiencing a nightmare, a bad one too, was enough to drive the genius from his shelter in the lab to seek out Steve's room, and make sure he was ok. It left this weird light feeling in his chest; which to him sounded crazy, considering there was something actually in his chest that he was constantly reminded of, but it was a different feeling than the Arc Reactor. Past the humming noise and painful strands of muscle and tissue around the reactor, slithering and traversing downwards, even past the shrapnel in his heart, there was a feeling of happiness.
Happiness for what exactly? That he was having a hard time figuring out. Was he happy that Steve was having a moment of weakness, and that Tony was there to help him? Or was he happy that the super soldier wanted to be around Tony; which to him was something he didn't expect, truthfully. What he had expected was to just simply get water, give it to Steve, and that would be the end of it. Never in his life would he imagine the blonde to actually plead for him not to leave. It must've been a pretty horrible nightmare, oh who was he shitting, it was most definitely a horrible nightmare, if the whimpering and prominent sweat were any indication.
Well, perhaps maybe it was a different deep seated happiness he hasn't figured out yet. Hell, he and Steve never really got along when they first met, and if you asked him, he would hope that they were considered friends, or at the very least, Steve considered him a friend back. It actually weird for him to even consider them friends, if he was honest with himself. All those years of worshipping Captain America, loving everything about him, buying everything and anything Captain America related, to sadly being compared to the very man you looked up to by your father. Those years of worship slowly transformed into a few years of resentment to anything and everything Captain America, but truthfully deep down, he still cherished the idea of him.
"And he's sleeping in my lab, on the couch. Funny how that turns out." He thought to himself. Yes life was very strange for Tony, he got the Arc Reactor in his chest from a cave in Afghanistan, thanks to a terrorist organization known as the Ten Rings, made the first Iron Man suit, dated Pepper, mutually broke up with Pepper; well more of less she broke up with him, but it hurt less to say they did it mutually. He really couldn't blame her, and despite the break up they were still best friends, he's just glad she's happy and understands that his life is too dangerous for her, and she'd rather feel safe, or at the very least not have to worry about whether Tony is going to die or not. He gets it, he really does, but it still hurts a little to this very day. If only he were different, or better, or maybe even-
"Fuck!" He swore loudly, accidentally shocking himself with one of the new widow bites he designed for Natasha.
"Language." A familiar voice said. He turned around, brown eyes locking on to blue ones that belonged to Steve, a faint smile on his face, and the fresh mop of blonde hair swept in different directions, the only indication that he might have either just woken up, or he's been awake for awhile.
