In the depths of my disbelief, I struggled to comprehend how my stepfather, against all odds, had successfully coerced me into accepting the treacherous mission he entrusted me with just a week ago. And now, here I stood, locked in a riveting exchange with Margie, venturing into uncharted territory, delving into inquiries I never imagined myself posing to another soul.

"Madame! What's this? Don't tell me you have a child already. Who knows, you might have gotten pregnant from all that clubbing," she teased.

"What? A-a child? No! God, Margie. Why would I have a child?" I was afraid of that thought.

Amidst the air infused with laughter, her melodic chuckles resonated, reverberating through the room, as her fingertips danced across the screen of her device. A cascade of digital information unfolded before her eyes, a mosaic of tips and tricks on how to navigate the unpredictable realm of parenting.

"What is your mission, Madame? I noticed that ever since you came back from Sir Herrera's office, you've been restless."

"The Mayor is receiving death threats, including threats against his family. While that's usual for a Mayor, his child was kidnapped by terrorists before. So he sought our help."

I couldn't remember making a conscious decision to agree, but as I pondered the possible consequences, I felt overwhelmed. I didn't even know that Mayor, nor did I have any intention of knowing him. It's like I want to refuse.

Throughout my life, I've been engrossed in guns and strategies. So why does this Mayor bother me? On paper, it seemed like an excellent offer, just as Dad explained. As I sat there, memories of my Dad's words came rushing back like an avalanche, each one crashing into my mind with vivid intensity, like a series of captivating flashbacks.

"After this, you can earn the highest position since I am going to retire three years from now. The Mayor is willing to pay billions if you handle the mission yourself. And I am allowing you to establish your own investigation center after the mission."

Our conversation unfolded amidst a swirling storm of doubts and curiosity that consumed me, leaving me questioning my own abilities and grappling with the tempting deals my Dad presented before me.

A burning desire had consumed me for years—to possess my own investigation center, a sanctuary of truth and justice that bore my own stamp of authority. While I knew I would eventually inherit my father's prestigious agency, there was an indescribable yearning within me for something more profound.

I craved the thrill of birthing my own establishment, no matter how humble or modest, for it would be a testament to my career in the pursuit of truth.

So now, I'm here preparing to be a wife and getting ready to be a full-time Mom.

As I stand on the precipice of matrimony and brace myself for the uncharted territory of motherhood, a mixture of determination and frustration courses through my veins.

Yes, I assure myself, I am capable of shouldering these new roles and responsibilities. Yet, beneath the surface of my resolute facade, an anguished growl rumbles within.
