She had that far away look in her eyes that told all of us that she was in a vision. The thought of another man around my mate, around Valentina, doesn't sit well with me at all but I have to play it off. I don't know what to do, my curiosity is growing but having a human for a mate definitely wasn't a part of my plan.

"Emmett?" Rosalie asked, walking back in after a few seconds of silence.

"I'm going out for a run." I replied, turning away from my siblings and walking out the front door.

"She's at the hospital." Alice softly said.

"Shut up." Rosalie growled as I ran off.

I didn't have a destination in my mind but I wasn't surprised when I ended up in front of the hospital. My sister texted me to go to reception so I followed her instructions. Her scent hit me before I saw her and I knew I was doomed. The one thing that surprised me was the fact that I don't want to drain her.

Her scent hit me like a freight train but I wasn't the least bit interested in drinking her blood. No, it was a huge temptation but what I want is to just . . . I don't even know. This is a very conflicting reaction, she's a good sort of temptation. Sinful but good, I just want to be surrounded by her.

Edward wasn't lying either, she's fucking beautiful. Looking at her is like a punch to the gut. Definitely a sinful temptation, a bodily reaction that I was not expecting in the least. I just stood there for a few seconds, listening to her joke around with her coworkers before making my presence known.

"Hi, I'm looking for Dr. Cullen." I said, making three female heads turn towards me.

Her petite frame and chocolate-colored eyes had me hooked and I know that I'm not going to be able to stay away from her. The slight blush on her cheeks had venom pooling in my mouth but I was quickly able to tame it. The intent isn't to bite but to bury and it's a visceral reaction but that definitely can't happen. As soon as her eyes locked on mine I knew without a shadow of a doubt that this was the woman for me.

"And who are you?" one of the nurses said, and the look in her eyes was unavoidable.

"I've got this ladies, his dad is in surgery right now anyway. I'll show him to the office." this beautiful woman said with a smile on her face, sadly looking away from me.

"Father? You're one of Dr. Cullen's kids?" the other lady asked.

"Yes, that's my dad." I politely said, using my human voice.

"Sweetie, don't you have to go?" the first woman asked her.

"It's okay, it's on my way Miss Nadine. Follow me." she said, shooting me the cutest smile ever.

"You ladies have a good evening." I told them, hearing their heart rate accelerate.

I followed Valentina down the hallway, inhaling her scent, and taking in her body some more. As if I couldn't already hurt her by accident she's so small, as in Alice type petite but I find it so beautiful.

"You've got two admirers there." she giggled and no sound has ever been so perfect to my ears.

"I think you might have just saved me from a possible sexual assault." I smiled.

"Knowing Miss Nadine and Miss Savannah, that's a very large possibility." she agreed, shooting me that cute smile again.

"Well, then I owe you my life and possibly my virtue." I winked.

"I highly doubt that." she smirked and it went straight to my . . . straight down there.

"What? You don't believe me . . ."

"Valentina, Valentina Rossi. My friends call me Val and you are?"

"Emmett Cullen, I'm guessing you work with my dad."

At this point, I just want to keep her talking. She has a sweet but sultry voice that I could listen to forever.

"Yes, he hired me. I saw a family picture on his desk but I never asked names, I thought it might be considered rude." she said.

"He wouldn't think that. So, you have something to do or somewhere to be? I don't want to take up too much of your time." I told her.

"Yeah, I've got dinner plans with my grandmother and I've gotta pick up my daughter from daycare." she replied, shocking the hell out of me.

"Daughter? How old are you? If you don't mind me asking that is."

"I'm 24 and I have a 5-month-old."

Quickly I looked down at her hands and I felt the most relief ever when I saw no rings.

"That's awesome, kids are cool." I smiled to cover the shock and that momentary flash of sadness from her beautiful eyes.

"Well . . . I . . . uh . . . here's your dad's office and I have to go." she stuttered.

"I'll see you around, Valentina Rossi." I promised.

"Goodbye, Emmett Cullen." she replied.

She ran off and I admired her petite body some more. My curiosity made me follow her to the daycare but I stood far away enough that she wouldn't see me. Her having a daughter was a surprise, why the hell didn't Alice or Edward or Carlisle say something?

As soon as she left I went back to Carlisle's office and I paced. She has a fucking daughter! A baby! That changes everything for me, I can't get involved with a mother. At some point, I will have to tell her the truth and either leave or change her. That wouldn't be fair to her or the baby.

"Son, are you okay?" Carlisle asked when he walked into his office.

"Why didn't anyone tell me she had a baby?" I demanded.

"Emmett, I thought you knew. I thought that's why you were so hesitant."

"No! They didn't tell me and now I don't know what to do. I . . . it wasn't even my intention to come here, I went out for a run and ended up here. At least I know the truth now." I sighed, not being able to really get angry at my dad.

"What are you going to do, son?"

"I haven't decided, Alice is probably going crazy."

"She means well." Carlisle said.

"Yeah, well and nosy."

"Think about things and don't make an impulsive or rash decision."

"I don't know about this."

"What did you think of her?" he asked.

"She's beautiful and she's got spunk."
