Trigger warning : mild cursing, angsty topics??
Kyle sighed quietly as he checked the time on his phone. 5:56 pm. Craig was supposed to meet him at the abandoned playground almost thirty minutes ago. He should have known that Craig was going to be late. He always was. Kyle stood up from his seat on the bench and sadly slung his backpack over his shoulders. If Craig couldn't bother to show up on time, why should Kyle bother to wait for him?

Kyle shoved his phone in his pocket and started to walk away from the playground. He was so done with all of this. Him and Craig had been dating since sophomore year. It all started with a stupid group assignment in English, Kyle assuming he'd have to do all the work by himself. His teacher had stuck him with Cartman and, of course, Craig. Kyle was pleasantly surprised when he realized that Craig was actually going to help him with the assignment. This sparked a friendship that quickly evolved into something more.

Here they are now, the end of Senior year and already burnt out on life. Kyle couldn't wait to get out of this awful town, but Craig was not so comfortable with the idea of packing up his life and starting over. They had discussed this many times, usually ending in a tiny arguement. Kyle loved Craig, he really did, and he didn't want to pack up and leave Craig behind. But he also didn't want to be stuck on this fucking mountain for the rest of his life. He wanted to be free and have choices. He wanted to see something beyond this little town he had grown up in. He didn't want to settle and silently be miserable for the rest of his life. He wanted to live.

"Kyle!" The redhead was quickly snatched from his thoughts as he turned towards the voice. He saw Craig waving at him as he ran towards Kyle. Kyle smiled weakly and waved back to Craig, slowly walking towards him. Craig quickly caught up to him and goofily grinned.

"Hey. I'm really, really sorry I was late. My mom was yelling at me for not doing the dishes," he quickly explained. Kyle nodded in understanding and silently wrapped his arms around Craig's waist, burying his face into the taller male's chest. Craig smiled to himself and wrapped his arm around Kyle's shoulders. They stayed like that for a while, simply existing together. Until Kyle pulled away and tried to subtly wipe his tears away. This action did not go unnoticed by Craig.

"Kyle, what's wrong?" Craig asked gently as he cupped Kyle's cheek, wiping away the tears. Kyle closed his eyes and drew in a shaky breath. He opened his eyes and slowly pulled away from Craig's touch. Deep down, he knew this was best for both of them. So why did it hurt so fucking bad? He took a step backwards and cleared his throat, a failed attempt to recollect himself.

"C-Craig," he choked out. "I think we need to break up."

"What?! Why would you even say that?!"

"Because, Craig, you don't fucking love me!" Both boys' eyes widened as Kyle responded. Kyle sure as hell meant it, but he didn't mean to say it. Craig dumbly blinked as he tried to process everything.

"What are you talking about? Of course I love you!" he said quickly.

"No, Craig. You don't. Not the way I love you. I'm in love with you, and I know that's not how you feel about me. You can love someone without being in love with them. And I don't think you were ever in love with me. You just didn't want to be alone. You convinced yourself you were in love with me because, to you, that's easier than being alone. And we both know it Craig! We've known it the whole time!"

By the time Kyle was finished with his rant, he was silently crying and struggling to keep his composure. He slowly looked up at Craig to find that his eyes were starting to water. Kyle instantly felt bad. Not for what he said, but for making Craig cry. He had always hated seeing Craig cry, it was one of his biggest weaknesses. But this time, he couldn't be the one to comfort Craig.

"Craig, I love you. I always will. And I still want you to be a part of my life, but just not like this. We both know that what I said was true, but that doesn't mean I want to lose you." Craig looked at the ground as he wrapped his arms around himself. Kyle wanted him to say something, anything, but the silence prevailed.

Ahaha, I got a bit lazy towards the end so there's not really an ending??  But I hope you enjoyed anyways. Feel free to point out any errors or give me constructive criticism, it is greatly appreciated :)
