It was 3 AM and the faint sounds of weird as hell zombie growls were heard in the distance. Eric and Bob were still awake and the others to had gone to sleep. The two of them had a very detailed discussion on what they should do next and how it would affect everyone else in the long term.
Suddenly, a shriek of absolute horror woke everyone up. It came from one of the houses in the corner where Erin and some of the boys were sleeping. When Mike, Miles, and Rachel had arrived there they witnessed the most horrible thing. Erin, the boy they had rescued and who had been bitten had turned.
Erin was no longer Erin; he was a flesh-craving monster who was looking for its next meal. The monster had been tugging at Miguel and luckily, he hadn't been bitten but he would be if they didn't do something. While Miles rushed to pull Erin of by the legs Rachel tried to get it off Miguel. While they were busy Mike had found a plank of wood in the corner of the room and with all his strength, he smashed the plank of wood over its head.
There was blood, a lot of blood. The four of them were covered in blood, the floor was covered in zombie brains and blood and the walls were sprayed with blood. Kayla, Zig, and Leon came in. They were as shocked as everyone else. Leon and Miles carried the body outside and buried it. The rest of them started cleaning. Mike went to go find the parents to see why they hadn't arrived yet.
It turned out that they had tried to get inside, but the door was locked, and they were trying to get it open, but they could fine the damn keys. Mike told them everything which had happened and told them that they had sorted out the situation. After everything and everyone was cleaned up, they all went to their rooms but after what had just happened no one could sleep.
The horrific event that occurred that night had scared everyone and haunted everyone that night. Eventually since no one could fall asleep Miles, Mike, Leon, Kayla, Zig and Rachel eventually all got together in one room and started talking about everything that happened.
They spoke all night. They spoke about their families, about how long they thought this thing would last and how long they thought they would survive. Some of them even thought about if there even a god is because if there is how on earth could he allow something like this to happen. The room was filled with discussion. It was a long tense and draining talk. It was almost as if everyone worst nightmares about losing the people the love had become a hopeless and inevitable reality.
Most of them had even tried calling their parents and there was no answer. Some of their parents had sent them videos of encouragement and survival of the new world and how much they would always love them just before they died. It was that night when all of them actually started trusting each other and started getting closer.
The expression is often said that no man is an island. We all need one another whether we like it or not. That age-old saying came to life for them. They all realized that night that in order to survive the new world that had been given to them the needed each other. One way or another they had to survive. Life couldn't just be this.
Everyone had lost someone they loved that day and now there was nothing in heaven or hell they could do about it and that was the ugly truth. They had been talking for ages when Mike saw the sun come up and said, "Well will you look at that, we've been talking all morning.
Leon replied, "Well today is a new day and hopefully way better."
They all started getting as ready and prepared as possible for who could possibly know what would happen today. The first order of business due to last night's events was to have a decent funeral for Erin. Mike and Miguel were especially heartbroken because they were very close friends with Erin and now, he was dead.
Mike said a very heartwarming speech about his dear friend. He also knew, and so did everyone else, that not everybody would survive the new world. Rivers of tears were running down the faces of everyone there. After the service was finished everyone knew that they could only survive if they had each other.
Soon after the funeral was finished, and everyone had something to eat they separated into their groups for the day. There were different tasks that had to be done for that day, defenses had to be set up, food and weapons had to be gathered and rationed and lastly, they had to know what they were up against specifically speaking about the things that were supposed to be dead were walking around eating brains. (The zombies unless it was unclear) Miles, Rachel and Leon (Squad 1) were assigned the task of getting as many supplies as possible and since Leon could drive it made things a whole lot easier.
Mike, Miguel and Bob's job was to go catch a zombie and break it down to see what to do when you run into one and how to eliminate it. Kayla, Zig and Eric were going to start securing the property in order to ensure that everyone was a safe as possible. They didn't want anything bad to happen again. Erin's death seemed to only be a warning of what was to come. While the three groups were running their important errands the rest of the people at home started to organize the camp and started to ration the food and any other resources.
With everyone clear on their tasks for the day they started to get ready to head out. Before Squad 1 could head out they first had to map out and plan the route that they were going to take so that they could pick up as much supplies as possible without using up so much gas.
They decided to go through town so that they could collect whatever they could. It took them a while to figure out the logistics of the entire thing.
Miles looks up and says, "I reckon that if we go through town, we can get most of the things we need since it should have everything there. Plus, if we take this route and raid as many stores as we can then we might not have to go back for a while."
Rachel remarks carefully, "I guess your right but there are a few problems with taking that route. It's the center of town a lot of people are gonna be there which mean that is it very likely that there are gonna be a lot of dead people walking around."
There is silence for a moment or two when Leon comes up with a suggestion.
"There are a few things that we do have to be careful about since we are going to be heading into town where a lot of dead people are gonna be. But I think I have I plan for gathering the supplies," said Leon.
"Let's hear it"
"See what I was thinking is that we head into town, but we try and kill as many zombies of while we are in the car. Like we try stabbing them through the window. The what we do is we head into the stores in a triangle formation. While Rachel collects the supplies in the middle, Miles and I will be on lookout and kill any zombie that could be a threat.
"Sounds like a solid plan."
"Yeah, the key thing here is that we stay in formation and never split up and we shouldn't stay in the store for too long."
"Right, we have a plan, should we head out?" asked Rachel.
"Let's do this," said Miles.
