Miles
Ok, a lot had happened during the past weeks. I couldn't believe it at all. There was no way of telling that anything like this could have happened.
I was driving for so long and Leon had fallen asleep in the front passenger's seat but everyone else had started to wake up. Thankfully only after the dreadful conversation, I had with Mike and Zig.
I couldn't believe it. Not only were the dead walking but Mike was bitten by one of them and still he hadn't turned after so long. How was that even possible? The fact of the matter was that it wasn't but somehow that guy was an exception.
We were about halfway there, and everyone was complaining about going to the bathroom. After the long drive, everyone had to go, and it would be a complete disaster if we didn't stop soon.
"Dude when are we gonna stop I gotta go," complained Kayla for what seemed like the one-hundredth time.
"Uncle Eric there's a station about five minutes ahead, I'm pretty sure we can stop then."
I then called Uncle Eric in the front and told him that we should stop at the station for a quick break.
I can't lie and say he was too happy about that. It was getting dark and he didn't want to be on the road at night in the dark. It wasn't an ideal situation. But eventually, he was convinced that a quick break would do everyone some good.
At long last, we finally arrived at the station. It wasn't in such bad shape as any of the other stations we've seen. This one was still okay and had a bit of food but not a lot of fuel. Nevertheless, we got out and took what we could while the others went to the bathroom and some of the kids wandered off.
Suddenly we heard a chilling and horrific noise. It was the sound of kids who were being torn apart by flesh-eating monsters. I can never forget that sight. It still haunts me in my sleep. The image never leaves me.
We tried to fight them off those kids but nothing we did was enough. They died the most horrible death that anyone could have died. The most horrible thing is that we couldn't do one damn thing about it. Nothing was enough.
We buried them after they died. We killed them twice. And just like that ten kids were lost. Now we were only thirteen. Even though what happened was horrible and tragic we couldn't let the same thing happen to us or it would all be for nothing.
Rachel, Kayla, and I decided to check around for any other possible threats. We checked around and didn't see anything, but Rachel saw someone she thought she was never gonna see again.
These two people were hiding behind the store and once we saw them it was quite a reunion let's just say.
"HEY, YOU THERE! PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM!" I screamed with Uncle Eric's crossbow aimed at them. He gave it to me if I needed to use it.
They slowly turned around. Both of them look exhausted and one of them was injured. As far as I could tell the wound was a cut and it was well looked after. Both of them looked as though they would drop dead at any moment. They didn't even try to resist.
Next thing I knew Rachel was running in from behind me.
"Myles what the hell are you doing."
She looked at me then looked at the two guys I was aiming my crossbow at. Her jaw dropped to the floor and punched me on my arm.
"Matthew! Lee!" she exclaimed with pure joy and shock painted on her face as she ran quickly towards them. I then put my gun down as I realized that these people were anything but enemies to Rachel.
Rachel
"I thought you guys were dead!" I exclaimed nearly sobbing.
I was more than relieved to see Matthew and Lee. They were my brothers, my family, and the thought of them being dead scared me to death. I then gave them some air to breathe and finally looked at them. I've never seen either of them look so exhausted before. Not in all our years of friendship. My heart ached to see Matthew so defeated and Lee so out of options.
"What happened? How did you get here? Why are you here?" I asked in a hurry. I felt like I need to know what happened to them. I need some answers from the people I care about.
"Rachel, maybe we should take them back to the bus," said Miles with his hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah okay. Yeah let's help you guys out," I answer with thick worry in my voice. I can't help it.
Miles and I lead Matthew and Lee back to where our vehicles are parked. So many thoughts were flooding through my mind nearly making me sob. I thought that when this whole thing started that I was never going to see them again. I never thought that I could be so sick with worry. After all those restless nights worrying about the people I might have lost, it was such a relief to see them again.
As soon as we approach the parking my mom sees us, and her eyes fill with tears. As she runs towards us, she calls out to my father. The relief mixed with shock is very clear on his face.
"Lee, Matthew it's so good to see you! thank goodness," my mother exclaims as she pulled them into her motherly embrace.
My father approached them and although they are exhausted, they straightened up and put their hands out to shake my father's hand. To everyone's surprise, he pulled them into a tight embrace.
Once we've seated them we hand them some freshwater we found in the petrol station. Eagerly they gulp down the water and the food that we gave them. It broke me to see that they went so long without anything. Finally, they started to speak.
