It was 4:30 am on a Monday. You know that saying of having a blue Monday, well it was a definite blue Monday for Mike. He had thought that the worst of the pain from the bite would be gone but he was sorely mistaken. While everyone was in a deep sleep Mike was over the toilet vomiting. He had never thought that much bile could leave his system.
After the worst part was over he took a chance to look at his bite. Strangely it was starting to heal. The flesh was closing up but was leaving behind a scar. Unfortunately, after his puking episode, he had a horrible headache. It wasn't like a normal headache. His head was spinning and throbbing. After taking a few pain tablets he made a miserable attempt to go back to bed.
He decided to tell Zig about what happened. He knew he could trust Rachel but he didn't want her to get involved in his mess. Zig however was already involved whether he wanted to be or not. When he finally showed Zig the scar you could say he wasn't the calmest and collected person you could see.
It was fair to say that he was freaking out.
"I'm telling you man all we can do is wait, its not like we have a doctor here or something to help me out," said Mike. Still, Mike was calmer about this whole situation. That freaked Zig out even more.
"Fine man," Zig sighed. It wasn't like they had a better plan. They still knew they couldn't tell anyone. Not until they had some sort of plan.
While they were sitting in the room playing a game of cards Eric busted through the door scaring them.
"You two. We gotta get going. A horde is on its way here. You are gonna go with Miles to get some resources from the petrol station. Listen to him and don't do anything stupid," he ordered them.
"Yes sir," Mike answered. He always thought that Rachel's father was quite commanding. He wasn't the biggest man but he was built quite strong and had a gray beard with streaks of black. He looked like the kinda guy you wouldn't want to mess with.
After getting into the bus with Miles at the wheel the headed to the station. They mainly needed gas and some food for the trip ahead. None of them knew exactly where they were going after this they just figured Eric knew.
What they knew now was that they needed to get stuff while the others at the house packed everything they needed.
When they got inside the shop they headed straight to where the barrels of gas were stacked. Mike decided it would be a good idea to get the barrels from the top first but soon before he could stop it the barrels came tumbling down on him. The second injury he'd obtained in two days. Just great. To add to the damage Miles saw Mike's bite as he tried to get the barrels of him. His eyes widened. This wasn't good.
"How dammit?! That's not possible!" exclaimed Miles with fear spreading across his face.
"Man, just calm down-" said Mike who was seriously starting to worry.
"Don't tell me to calm down! You should be dead right now! Dead!" he said pointing to Mike arm where the scar and a bit of flesh was exposed.
"LOOK DAMMIT! I DON'T KNOW OKAY! I DON'T KNOW. You don't think I'm scared about what's gonna happen to me. I should be dead right now but I'm not and I don't know why. What I'd do if I hurt my family or the people I love! What then?!"
Finally, after a long silence where the three of them where left to consider their option Zig spoke up.
"Look we might not know what is going on. But as long as Mike is alive, he's alive. We don't tell anyone about this. We can't, not when we know so little."
They looked at each other and realized that they were all in agreement. They didnt have a choice. There wasn't much they could do about Mikes situation, what would anyone else be able to do. Not unless they found a doctor and even then, it was a stretch.
They headed home and and awaited for the next course of action.
