This is for anyone else who has been perpetually confused about the number of animals Noah took on the ark: in Genesis chapter 7, when it says "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female." (7:2), I always got confused, thinking it was saying seven TOTAL animals, which contradicted with the "male and his female" part. What I realized a few years back is that God is telling Noah to take seven PAIRS of the clean animals and two pairs of the unclean.
