"You wanna hang out with us later?" Gary asks, Wyatt nodding along.

A smile spreads across her face.

Maybe this year wasn't gonna be so bad...

"Yeah sure." She responds.

The boys eyes widen and their cheeks turn pink.

"Wait really?" Gary asks, shocked.

She raises an eyebrow. The boys clearly weren't used to girls talking to them. If they tried to talk to a girl, even just say 'hi', they'd get kicked in the nuts.

"Yeah? Why wouldn't I?" She asks, her smile fading slightly.

"Well it's just, pretty girls, don't usually talk to us." Wyatt says, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

Y/n turns red. Wyatt stiffens when he realizes what he said.

"I- I- I-" Wyatt stammers, turning to Gary for help.

"So you'll come tonight? We're gonna watch monster movies at Wyatt's."

She smiles.

"That sounds sick! I'll be there."

"Here I'll give you my address and our phone numbers." Wyatt says, a dusting of pink still lingering on his face.

She nods, and watches as Wyatt opens a locker nearby, that she assumes is his. He pulls out a piece of paper and pencil, and lays it against the wall so he can write.

He walks over and hands it to her. "Thank you" she smiles. He, of course, blushes.

"Here I'll give you both my number as well." She says while tearing off a corner of the page.

"Thanks" they say in unison.

"I should probably get back to class.." she says.

"Yeah, of course!" Gary exclaims.
"Yeah." Wyatt stutters.

"Alright... bye you two, see you later." She waves, turning around the corner.

"Bye!" Gary yells.

"Bye" Wyatt sighs, waving. Unable to wipe the smile off his face.

"She's totally into me." Gary says cockily.

Wyatt furrows his eyebrows.

"Oh shut up shit head." He says, punching his best friends shoulder, causing Gary to laugh.

"What?!" Gary laughs, putting his hands up in defense.

~ Time skip ~

Y/n sits by Wyatt's locker, where they decided to meet, waiting for him and Gary to get out of class.

She sighs, pulling out her sketch book and her Walkman, placing her headphones over her ears and pressing play.

We Built This City blasted through the headphones as she pulls out her pencil.

She decided to skip her last period. She's always hated math class anyways. Probably not the best idea for her first day but she was already feeling overwhelmed. She probably would have just fallen asleep anyways.

She drags the pencil across the paper, not sure what she's gonna draw yet, but she knew, eventually it would turn out as something.

She draws, slowly fading out.

"Fucking loser!" Can be heard yelled from down the hall as y/n l/n is shoved into a locker.

Her ears ring as she tries to step forward, but to no avail.

By now, y/n was used to the daily beatings and harsh words.

She's pushed again, her back slams into the lockers as a loud clang is heard.

She winces.

She looks up.

Jaydon, the most popular boy in school. A total jock. Dating Stella, the preppy girl who's head of the cheerleading squad. Both with quite the following.

They could snap their fingers and get anything they wanted instantly.

Even all the teachers adored them.

Jaydon grabs the front of her shirt, pulling her face close to his.

"You're such a pathetic piece of shit aren't you." He snaps, then spits in her face.

She can hear Stella snickering in the back, "what a waste of space" she adds.

The crowd clears as he drops her to the floor.

She collapses onto the ground, wiping the spit away from her face. Tears glide down her cheeks as she brings her knees to her chest, leaning her back to the wall.

(Play the song above now, if you want)

Silent tears fall down her face and drip onto the paper. She shakes away the memories and looks at her paper, which is now mostly full. She smiles as she realizes what she's drawn. Wyatt.

She lets out a half laugh half sob as she admires his features, running her fingers along his cheek.

Well shit. She smiles, leaning her head back against the locker.

By now the song has changed.

She smiles realizing what it is.

I just called to say I love you the music plays into her ears as she softly hums along. A steady flow of tears still streaming down her face.

The bell rings, pulling her out of her daze.

"Hey y/n!" Wyatt smiles and waves from down the hall, Gary following not far behind. "Hi y/n!"

She smiles and waves, quickly closing her sketchbook and wiping away some of the tears.

"You got here quick." Gary points out, skeptically.

"I skipped" she shrugs, pulling off her headphones and setting her things in her bag.

The two look at her surprised.

"What?" She asks confused.

"We didn't take you as the type to skip." Gary shrugs.

Y/n giggles.

"Well, it was only math class." She states, starting to get off the floor.

Wyatt offers his hand to help her up.

She blushes and takes it, allowing him to help lift her from the cold ground.

"Thanks" she smiles.

"No problem" he smiles back, looking into her eyes. The world slows around them.

"Uh, guys?" Gary says, snapping them back to reality. They hadn't even realized they were staring at each other. Y/n shakes her head, bringing herself back. Wyatt glares at Gary, a blush present on his face.

Gary smirks.

They start walking. Y/n in the middle of the two boys.

"Hey uh y/n?" Gary asks.

"Yeah?"

"Have you been crying?"

~
